My first floor bathroom is thru the wall since I am on a slab foundation. Which is also why it is exposed in the garage. The second story bathroom tho is directly above all the pipes water heater etc and so it is just ran straight up the wall which becomes an exposed wall above the garage. (Roof angles downward over the garage door and the bathroom is the very front corner)
Wow... my current home was built in 98, so pretty close to yours.
I've been pleasantly surprised with the way this builder built my house. The two bathrooms come from different supply lines, which may seem odd until you want to have the two showers going at once. I would still like to add capacity to the system, but the way it was done is pretty cool.
Not sure of you all use sprinkler systems in your necks of the woods, but I also like that my shutoff and backflow preventer for the sprinkler system are both inside the house.... in addition to a system drain.
I just need to get some wiring done, and I'm set. I need to get a 220 feed out to the garage, and run a dedicated 110 feed to the back of the house.

Ohh, you guys, my house was built in '10 - 1910!!!- its seen the '13, 37,and 59 floods!- shes still strong and straight- but man, there are no perfectly straight poured plaster walls! Ive replaced the pipes with mostly pvc, replaced the (2) fuse panels and **** and tube wiring with romex and a single breaker box.-all without managing to destroy the plaster!- i would like to put vinyl siding on , but to match the "gingerbread" look is pretty pricey! My oldest son and i changed out the wooden columns on the front porch 2 yr ago- put in reinforced resin - it turned out good- but looking at the way the old timers made stuff- man, they were crafts men!
- 15* earlier this morning when I awoke, it's -8 now. The furnace was running when I got here. Had it set to 55*, I cranked it up to 65* about an hour ago. It's still 55 lol. Could really use that fireplace, it's still on the fritz. I have a 1500 watt space heater going now while I'm here, just fired it up.
I have a feeling if I let this thing freeze one more time it's going to do some damage. I moved 80 lbs of propane inside so the valves don't freeze. Doesn't look like it's going to warm up here until the 6th of next month.
Crap, just ran out of propane, just now lol. Hope the regs not froze. So I went through 40 lbs in 24 hours. Getting expensive to heat this thing.
EDIT: - Scratch that, not out of propane yet, - I fired up the space heater close to the thermostat, it kicked the furnace off.

White has a good idea lol. The only problem I have with the cold is my damn fingers. Gloves are out of the question and you can't work on anything with arctic mittens on.
I'd be out of luck if I were boon-docking somewhere lol.

The fireplace is no more than a cheap insert. It 1500 watt as well. I have 3000 watts in space heaters. BUT, I can't leave a space heater alone in good conscience...paranoia sets in.
