I wondered what was wrong with the 300 when they came out with the 820
If the engine needs a spring and one way valve for the oil filter, there is something wrong with the design IMO
Same with balance shafts, you build a mexican jumping bean of an engine that needs a balance shaft, you screwed up
Good thing you guys didn't convert to run the 820's...that would of been a mistake. The FL1A looks to be a solid product.
_____________
Merlin might get an invite to race in the Freedom 500 now... Matt did.
Btw, - Derek is part of that I believe...buddies with Cleetus McFarland.
Kinda wondering if Paul will too. Paul bought that Packard from Derek, if you recall. +1 on avoiding a mistake by not converting to FL820S.

It's weird how things play out. Bean counters are probably to blame.
Speaking of changing sizes.... someone posted on the SBF page that WIX makes a MUCH shorter version of the FL1A. Looks like a good option for the hot rod builders. It's only 2 1/4" tall.
Also... it appears that 97, and maybe 98 (hoping you can help out here, Brew) used a different fuel filter. The Motorcraft is what mine takes. It looks like the WIX will work on the fuel line itself, but obviously the retaining clamp size for the filter is different.
