This is what the Sonnax kit is fixing. I've never seen one that is not cracked.... not that I've seen A LOT, but I'm like 20 for 20 seeing them being rebuilt.

What do those little cracks do?

It creates a cross leak from the forward clutch over to the direct clutch passage.

I thought all 4R70/75's didn't have the factory reinforcement plate, but it looks like it's 01 and newer that they removed the plate.

EDIT: I found a great explanation on the Sonnax page:

That doesn't sound good. Glad I didn't have to fool with a 70. Thought they just did the J mod to those....if I remeber right.

I mean.... I understand everyone has to start somewhere, but that's a big one to start with, lol.

Every time I open my hood, I say to myself "I really ought to fix these leaks that are starting", but I usually close the hood and hope they're gone when I open it again.

So... not to beat a dead horse, but I'll get a couple more swings in here.... the aforementioned reservoir has raised 12 feet in 10 days, and it is just 4 feet from the spillway. When we decided to move out here 6 years ago, I was told by a guy I work with "don't go buying any of those houses they are building right below the reservoir". These home on the right in this pic are said homes. I'd hate to be there right now.

Not sure I'd trust that bank holding the water back. Not even at that level...it could start leaking any time now. Once that starts......

Yea, those houses....yikes. May have dodged one not moving there white.

We have similar shenanigans going on here in CO - developers are getting permits to build homes on known unstable hillsides, and then they fall off after just a few years. Both situations can only be the result of deep corruption, and in your case, willful stupidity on the buyers' parts (that picture says it all).
