The customer wanted a kit that's made by Superior, so that's what it got. The 4R70/4R75 that I am doing next will get a Transgo kit. It's way better, and much more complete. Only like 20 more dollars too... no Brainer, really!
Also replaced original aluminum clutch line regulator valves. They were wore out, replaced with steel ones. Had to hunt them down and purchase separately back then..looks like a few come in the kit now.
See that shift plate in the kit? Ruined that one, drilled the shift point holes one size too big from the start. It was slamming gears a little too aggressively. Made another one out of piece of stainless steel stolen from an old 80's Kenmore dryer...spent the good part of the day on the drill press perfecting holes and cut-outs lol.
That was back in 06, never had another problem with the trans in the 150.
Almost forgot....Couldn't use Merc V after that, it wouldn't last and start to heat up, - slipping when towing at max. Had to switch to Amsoil to knock the heat down, along with a cocktail of XL12 for the clutches. Most expensive part of that project, but it worked!
First and last time I had a trans apart lol. Retired trans guy at TCCOA helped me with it.

Reason: Formulation change
He told me that if everyone would just replace or go through the valve body at 100K, there would be a lot less transmission business. As I am sure you've noticed, that valve body is everything to that trans. I'm sure you saved that thing by doing the kit. In fact, we are going to go pulla 97 valve body for my truck and build it. There are 3 97's listed at the wrecking yard.
EDIT: Your story reminds me of yesterday.... I'll start by saying that his eyesight isn't the greatest, and he was measuring for the correct drill bits using calipers. He didn't realize he had it on "MM" instead of "IN". He had measured out all of the drill bits for me to use, and I told him "these holes are all bigger than the bits you gave me to drill them out". Anyway... we almost went and got a new separator plate until I noticed the calipers needed to be on "IN", LOL. Kind of got a laugh out of that one.
EDIT2: Did you notice this on the Transgo site? Geez.... counterfeit everything!!

Valve body or/and accumulator body? Whatever they call it was dirty, looked burnt. Looked like embedded clutch material. That took some cleaning. The original formulation fill from the factory was Mercon, non synthetic, which was part of the problem. Get so hot you couldn't touch the stick.
Is that a Tomco box I see in the back? DPFE, I assume?
Wondered if you were going to notice that. We talked about that in the past once before. Tomco was the only supplier. Anyway yep, it enclosed the last aluminum DPFE in existence lol. Well, I don't know if it was the last, it was definitely hard to find and I believe they said there were very few left...like 3 or something. That was back in 06. That's still working fine as well.

Reason: memory coming up with more shiii
I wouldn't say all...XL12 in the trans was voodoo or different, never would of thought of that myself. That was all TCCOA. Didn't realize how much better Amsoil was for the trans back then either.
