I really shouldn't be allowed on the interwebs after taking a Gapapentin (nerve blocker). My brain doesn't always function tip top. I went back and read that, and no, that's not what I do. I cut them there to desolder them so the windings don't get all of the torque of pulling the whole assembly off. You are correct Ohio, wrap, then solder. I'll go back and point that half-a-brain comment down here.

I don't know if you remember me saying that my neighbor dropped my DeWalt impact a couple of months back? It hasn't been the same since, but it's still been a trooper. Well, over the past week or two it's been getting worse. It was struggling with lug nuts that I put on with it just a month ago. Trying to decide if I fix it or just get a new one. Hmmmm... Luckily you can buy any replacement parts for it.

Funny thing is... you called him Norm, but I knew exactly who you were talking about. It hit me when Paul kept calling him Eric this morning, LOL.

I went to go check out the white Banana, and they want 100 for it. Dang! LOL. I'll probably end up with a hoodie or a hat... still deciding.

Cut them prior to removal, I did. Sounds like that stuff would work well against stress. 🤪

Yeah... I sounded like an idiot under the Gabapentin influence back there. LOL

Any of you DeWalt users have experience with this impact? My current impact is rated at 400 foot pounds, and so far it hasn't met much it won't handle. But looking at this things, and I found this 700 foot pound impact. I kind of like this idea, plus it looks like I can fit it in tighter spots. Hopefully that link works. I've had issues posting HD links in the past where it just goes to the main page.

It's funny, my friend and I were just talking about air tools vs. battery-powered a couple days ago, and how much better the latter have become. That Dewalt certainly warrants investigation.

I had a hell of a time getting my rear passenger seabelt bolt out. It was nature welded pretty good. I hit it with the DeWalt first, and it sounded awful. I switched to my pneumatic Earthquake XT stubby - it was really weak feeling. I tried my older-than-dirt 110V impact. Weak sauce. Went back to the DeWalt and busted my T50. I soaked the hell out of it some more while I went and bought an impact torx set.... and by then it whipped it right out. I've really loved this DCF889. When it got dropped, the way it hit and sounded when it hit, I was amazed it didn't break. I might break it open tomorrow and assess the damage. If it looks really bad, I'll just go to HD and get a new one.

So, that link was the bare tool - no battery - for 249 dollars. Got on there this morning to buy it, and look what was there. Same impact, with a battery, charger, and bag for the same price. Needless to say, I'll have one of these later today. My HD says they have them in stock.

At some point I will buy the stuff to fix the old impact. I really didn't want to take it apart and be down with no impact, so this helps. just need to be careful with having a new impact with 75% additional torque, lol.

One must use all that power responsibly.
Make sure you set the torque down if you use it on lug nuts.
It can break 12mm studs (and smaller stuff).
I know this from experience.
I have a Milwaukee 2863 I got in a similar deal.
These tools do not play.
Air tools suck compared to these monsters.
These tools are GREAT!!

I watched my next door neighbor snap a stud on his Tundra with his Milwaukee. This thing has 3 settings... I'll just need to learn them, and hope I don't snap anything in the process.

I ordered the impact at 4:39 am, and got an email at 5:10 am saying it's ready for pickup, LOL. They open at 6:00, so that's pretty cool. I have to be at work at 6, or I would have already picked it up. Also... I bought the extended warranty through Allstate for another 35. Don't know if that's going to work out for me or not.

EDIT: Details on the warranty, if any of you are interested:
