Those are easy once you learn how, quicker with a copper spoon, if you can get behind it. Eastwood use to sell a nice spoon for that.

See those tiny pits ? A little tip, if you don't know already. - You either fill them w/weld or spot blast before applying a filler. Never forget a spot blast before going over weld with filler. Big mistake that will haunt you in the near future...you don't want to deal with that.

What would happen if I skimmed over the tiny pits?! Moisture can't get in there !

Not from the outside, but it will condensate eventually, specially if the metal freezes. The pits have to be clean and carbon free or the skim coat/filler will separate enough for corrosion to begin. It'll take some time, but it will start showing in two or three years. Rust from the inside out. That's why you spot blast with fine media first, then finish it off to primer or etching primer before it flashes.

It can turn a fantastic looking job to crap skipping that step.

Good morning thinkers!- nice spot job, B-o-W!
1000 miles per year!!- dang that beats even my miles!!- seriously, though, shouldnt you change the oil just because of condensation built up during short trips?
I change my oil twice/yr. regardless, mainly for that reason. ( oil changes are cheap compared to the cost of a repair or replacement!)
Fellers have a great day- ttyl

Good Morning Bear!

Yes , IF your short trippin it. Not the case with my old one. They use it when they need to pull a trailer or haul something. Which hasn't been that often lately. So the engine runs full cycle when used.

Also, moisture contamination will usually show under the oil cap when your short trippin too much.

Changes have around 3000 miles on that truck. It's at 357, 368 currently.

Mechanically, it's doing alright, I can see it going maybe another 50,000. But it's rusting out quickly, that stuff has a hold of it now. It's beginning to show above wheel arch flares now. Well one in the front and both sides on the bed.
