IMO its a point of dimishing return. Ford wants to keep fast moving parts for their later model vehicles in the PDCs not stuff for 15-20 year old vehicles that may sell 2 or 3 a year

Ford actually, IMO, does a better job than other manufacturers with keeping parts available.

I have two spare A9L ECU's because I know that they're getting scarce.

Geez... I just hit up Ebay for prices on A9L's. 400 is the lowest I saw. About 900 for PCM and the engine harness..... and my GT40 351 lower should fetch a couple hundy's. Makes me think even harder about doing the Holley setup.

I have had people argue with me already when they ask do you have X part in stock for my say 01 F150. I say I know I don't have one but let me see when i can get one.

99% of the time their next response- how do you know you don't have one?! You didn't even look it up yet. I just know my inventory that well like any good parts guy

Had that earlier with body bushings and body bolts on I think it was an 01 F150 that a guy called asking for a rad support . Long ago obsolete from ford. Then he asked about the other stuff. And that conversation went as i expected

It will be difficult to find parts for vehicles close to 20 years old...

Holding on to a 10th gen F150, even if it's in good shape might be pointless in the long run.

OUCH! Is water in the fuel a bigger deal with a diesel than a standard gasoline engine? When I foolishly put years-old fuel in my '99, we were able to simply drain the water and contaminated fuel from the tank, fill with fresh fuel, run it through the lines, and all was good.

100% bigger deal. The HP portion of the fuel system(injection pump, injectors etc) depend on the lubricity of the diesel fuel to keep the bearings from self destructing and putting metal in the system. If you put anything besides diesel in the tank and even just turn the key on, the whole HP system is trashed. Ford has a whole contamination kit out to fix this SNAFU, runs about 7 grand + labor. Its about a 20-30 hour job. And if the customer doesn't want to do that, we have to send documentation into ford and they void the warranty on the fuel system

Good luck buying parts for a 20- or 25-year-old anything at a dealer. Some parts common to multiple vehicles and/or newer years may still be obtainable, but for those that aren't, given the number of these trucks that were sold, there still will be parts available in junk yards for decades.
