Yeah, she gets hot enough to burn your hand. I suspect the Expy is right up there with it. Every mod motor vehicle I've owned or been in has one heck of a heater. My Escape's heater is a POS in comparison. I need to flush it I suspect.

On my parents Taurus, I flushed it last year. I dumped a bottle of radiator flush in it, and let it sit for 30 minutes. Shoulda seen the trash that came out of it.

Otherwise, you'll need a special tool to get those connectors off the core stem. BUT, even with the correct tool, you'll be lucky to get them off without chopping them. That's why I use the opposite end. Ford just worm clamped those ends.
So I took a closer look today at the heater hoses. At the core end are two plastic release style clips like the one on the exhaust gas return tube. ( I believe that's what it's called.)

On the core hose that connects in the front of the manifold there's a worm clamp, and on the one that goes behind the engine there's a squeeze style clamp. Kind of looks like a pain in the *** to get to but I think I can manage.

Are you saying those release style clips on the core side are a PITA to get off?

Yes , the camps on the heater core stems themselves. That's only if yours are like mine...I think they are.

Well, I guess I'll say this. I've done away with the original core clamps. I'm using the same now but different. I removed the factory stye and purchased aftermarket that clamps in the same way. What's different is the new one use a barbed end that slip the hoses over. I did this so I didn't have to wrestle with the factory clamps as it costs way to much time and they get damaged in the process. I think RA is where I purchased the new ones and they were cheap compared to the old hassle. Two sizes, 3/4 and 5/8 for mine. With the new connects, I can take the clamp loose on top and just pull them off leaving the fitting itself still fastened to the core stem. Makes it real easy to flush the core, no more BS with the factory clamps.

Sounds like you have a worm clamp and pinch clamp on the other end of your hoses. If you release there you can still flush the core, it's just more of a PITA. But not as difficult as attempting to release the factory style at the core itself.
AK worked at a shop I think, they may have a trick for getting those off and re-using. I haven't found an easy way so I devised one lol.

With the pinch clamp and worm clamps, they can be replaced with heat clamps made for cooling systems. They expand and contract with heat. The also don't dig into the hoses and require little torque. That pinch clamp may be a PITA if you don't have a set of long pre-bent needle nose pliers on hand or the tool that's made for removing them. You'll probably succeed after inventing a few new cuss words lol.

Thanks, working my way down sort of. My first shop was the nicest, had everything, heat, hot water etc. My others after, not so nice, but good enough. I need heat and water for this one yet. There's a little house on the back of the property I've been meaning to fix up for company, but it houses a lot of stuff I can't fit into this one lol. So a little dilemma there. Still trying to downsize, selling stuff off, but it's hard to let go of things you really don't need but might!

Thanks again for the compliment, I enjoy fixing my own things. Everything that breaks requires new tools, sort of a bi-law if you will lol.
