Dads new xl is one nice truck!- little 6 cyl is pretty peppy- stiff ride for a 2wd- but it is new, so it may tone down a bit!-( but i still like my 10 gen better) lol!
No way I'm ever black Friday shopping but we did have a really good duck hunt this morning. So I could call that getting groceries. Lol

Be careful Bear. If you make that sound out on the hunt, you might get blasted.

Haha BANG BANG, but I am probably one of the safest hunters you will ever meet, just in case we end up on a hunt together.

We came home with 14 between six of us so there will be duck with a slice of banana pepper wrapped in bacon. Should be good.

JBrew....I found info looking around last night. I was wrong on it being 2 wires into one. The writing led me to figure it that way, but the picture showed using the 2 sensors on the newer motor. I got it figured out by the pic. Anyways, it was one of your posts that cleared it up. It was in an engine change out thread from a couple years ago.

Checking the 04 Expy motor for what parts are needed to change this week, and found the intake and EGR are correct, tube included. Other than sensor changes (using the 98 parts), adding the 2nd sensor to the crossover, switching the flexplate, and figuring out the pulleys vs accessory items, I am good to go. I'm still a bit confused on the 2 knock sensors, but should be fine with the original, correct, and not use the 2nd sensor?

Anything I'm forgetting? I like having everything laid out when I do a swap. No need for any surprises. They come enough by themselves, so I like keeping them to a bare minimum.

Now it's making sense, well more so anyway. First, the dual knock sensors. Great addition for the gen 11's (and your 04) to speed up timing changes, but yea, you won't be using two, just your original. They also relocated the sensors and with that I'm not sure if there's going to be a problem. I expect not, shouldn't be. It may not be centered in the block cavity is all. With the dual sensors they moved them up to keep them out of the coolant when the o-rings get bad lol. Nah, but they did move them.

ECT - I've done them bot ways, tapping the crossoever probably looks a little cleaner, but it has to be done correctly. I've seen them done poorly and not hold up. I seen that on-line at a different site, the guy hadn't prepped correctly and it was half ***. But it can be done properly and hold up. I've done it tapping the coolant line using brass WATTS fittings. Just a simple barbed T to except the pipe thread sensor. Probably the easiest, quickest way. BUT, like I mentioned earlier, some crossovers have an extra bung that's been plugged. If you to have this extra bung in your crossover, then that would be the way to go. Otherwise, you would have to build up the crossover in an area to tap for the sensor. I'd go with the coolant line personally vs that procedure.

White.....I picked up a 2004 Expy 5.4 for $350. It has 103k miles on it. Runs great but had a very very slight bottom end noise (I can hear a lower end noise very easily but not the high pitch of vacuum or such).

I've pulled the pan and saw that 2 rod bearings (3 & 7) were worn to copper, so I am replacing all the crank bearings. We mic'ed the crank and it was within 0015 of OEM. It has the silent chain guides, and they are very clean and undamaged. Chains are nice and tight. It has the new 8-9 thread heads, late style manifold and EGR with correct tube, so the limitations are few to pop this into lil Red. I will also be replacing the oil pump while I'm there.

I figured, if I am going to keep this, why not put this PI engine, with all the factory updates in lil Red. I can take the old 5.4 that runs well, and freshen it up for another GEN 10. While it is down, I'll do the PI swap and have it available for newer ones. I'll make it a swap-able long block for later.

Besides, my daughter called me and said they might come back a year earlier than they expected, since her husband is taking double classes to finish earlier. I promised this to her if she came back before their scheduled time. She asked if 3 days early counted. lol
