Thinking
Hey guys. Not a bad weekend on my side. A bit cool in the weather department and even cooler in the love side.
I finally had enough and told the gf that I couldn't put up with any more of her negativity. I did the inevitable, I told her goodbye, for the 3rd and final time. I can put up with a lot, but with her, I'd rather end up alone and broken, than to have her there to do more damage. lol
Time to put money into vehicles and not into girlfriends'.

Dang man, I didn't know you were doig time...
A negative chick? Huh, not sure I've seen one of those yet honestly. Well, I had a few put in the negative....if that counts lol.. But hey, the way I see it, they loose more than they could ever take. Well, a get a little tickle thinking it anyway lol. Congrats AK, just enjoy the rest buddy.
Doing time is a damn good description. lol
I was married to a great lady for 40 years, until she passed away. After that I hooked up with this one, who was married to my best friend, who also passed away. The funny part is that my wife and I hooked her and him up and they got married. After everything got sorted out, the logical conclusion was that we get together. We did. For over 3 years we were living together. I got where I couldn't take much more, so I packed up and moved to the trailer. The lake house was rented at the time. At least I had a place to go. I would of gone anyways, even if I didn't have a place to go. I'd had enough.

Back to lil Red. I took the engine up to my friends place so I would have a place to work on it this winter and have him stick it in him. We put it on the stand and pulled the pan to see how the bearings were. Two were worn enough to make me decide to replace all the mains and rods. Why not, while I'm there. I'm also going to throw on a new oil pump, and replace both guide sets for the chains, as well as the front and rear crank seals. There aren't worn that much, but while I'm there, it is only logical. The tensioners are fine, so they will stay with the chains (nice and tight). The cylinders are clean from the bottom up. I'll pull the intake next week and check the top end at that time. I'm trying not to make a mess of his shop, while I'm working on my stuff.
The cats (rt and lft sections) are in perfect shape. They supposedly only fit the 2003-4 Expeditions, but upon looking, other than positioning of one O2 sensor, they look to be a common fit. Anyway you look at it, If I need a single cat, I can always cut one out and use it or even replace the assembly and reset the one sensor.
Brew....I did keep all the tensioners and pulleys on the cover. I also kept the whole underhood wiring harness complete and left everything attached to the sensors and grounds, so there would be no problems later. You, I believe, mentioned in a post a long while ago, that the 98 had 2 wires to the coolant and head sensors but the newer ones had only one. Do you remember the link for how to hook the wires up to a single lead off the top of your head? I can do a search and go thru the pages of listings if you can't.

I think I know what your asking, -the Expy engine doesn't use a coolant sensor (ECT) correct ? It's a power improved engine yes ? That's most likley the case and since the 98 uses two 2 wire harnesses to monitor temps, one for ECT and the other for CHT, what do you do with the ECT sensor and harness after the Expy engine goes in ?
Did I cipher your question correctly ?
If so, there's more than just a few ways to do this, even more if you include tuning. So actually 5 ways or work around's in total (3 mechanical/2 tuning/ programming) and I'm familiar enough with them to help here.
Before I list and explain them and if I was swapping in a PI in a non-PI vehicle I would entertain the thought of flashing the PCM at the dealership after the swap. That would be the easiest rout to take, -plus the correct AF ratios would be dialed in at the same time. If you desire the engine to run as it should, flashing is definitely something to consider. Deleting the 98's ECT programming would be an "add-in" along with along with a CHT reconfigure IF required. You'll be just flashing the AF's and deleting ECT programming, -adding/customizing CHT duty/reporting with the 98's orig pcm prog.
Since I haven't been in that exact particular position in the past, - and I'm not sure what your planning overall,- or after the swap, I guess I want to know what your planning to do first as far as flash and/or tuning to the 98's PCM before I explain the mechanical rout options...know what I'm saying ? Would rather give you the precise info needed. So what's the plan?

Yes. I was asking about the coolant sensor going from 2 wires to one. I saw that link where it was detailed how to go from the 2 to 1 design. It also covered the knock sensor question. I figure since I have a low mileage late design 5.4, why not use it. I'll have $567 in it total including the engine, so not too bad. When I get it ready to roll over, I'll still need intake gaskets, so I'll will go down to Ford for those when it's time. I'm sort of a stickler for doing things right the first time. I don't like "comebacks", especially when it's my own vehicle. lol
I'll do some checking with my NEW Ford dealer. Cal Worthington sold to Kendall, so I'm not sure what their service department will do with modification. I may have to get a tune loaded special and use it. One way or another, I'll get that part when I get there. Right now I'm trying to get the little incidentals that can be problematic covered ahead of time.

I've seen it done many ways in the past, all which have worked....not a big deal at all to keep using it, -very simple in fact, no intake mod required and no tuning required. ..easy peasy.
I have to admit, not as easy as cutting one wire though. Yea have to see this lol.
We were going to travel 3 hours to my FIL's for the holiday.... but a last minute change is bringing him to our house. It works out a little better for us. I am taking my Wife to a play on Saturday night, so the change makes it so I don't need to rush back on Saturday.
Then oliver sudden we got one hell of a little storm. It started out as hail... and then rained... now we're snowing.
I hope you all have an enjoyable Thanksgiving and create wonderful memories with those you are celebrating with.
