Thinking
Looks good AK. I got a Duraliner for my last truck for $18.50 from pick--n-pull that was embossed with the Ford oval like that one. I really liked but as White alluded to, stuff will slide around quite easily on it. I should have removed it before insurance company took that truck away. Of well, maybe I'll find another one some day.
I'm interested to hear how much difference the new engine makes. Is the old one in bad shape or just tired from being old? I read this whole thread but I can't remember why you need a new engine. Maybe I'm the one who is tired from being old.

So, to get rid of the old 5.4 cold piston slap, I decided to go with a reman. Ford had the best price and best overall warranty, so I did it that way. I also have a rear main seal dripping so that would require a tranny pull and slide back, which is a tougher job than my hands will allow anymore, so F'it, I went w a Ford reman. OEM engine has 181k on it, but runs strong as hell. I just don't like the cold start up slap. Being in Alaska, in the winter, you can imagine how that could sound on a cold morning. It would sound like a pile-driver putting down pilings. lol
My old 98 has been slap happy for quite awhile, get use to it. I've seen them taken apart. There you can identify the slapper from the distinct carbon rings around the piston. #1 cylinder.
I really wish I could justify a Lightning swap in my '03. Since it's my DD, though, it just doesn't make sense. Having 4WD and being limited by the 4R70W, I know it could never be as fast as that truck, but it would still be fun.
As for the UDOT still: Roadside BBQ is is never fun.

Oh, I know. I hardly drive the Mustang, though, due mostly to weather. I'd get a lot more drive time out of the truck. If I told my wife I was going to supercharge *another* vehicle, though....

I have filled up the tank exactly once this summer. And it is well above half right now. I will probably get it out for a jaunt this weekend. I am a bachelor until next Wednesday, so I've got a little time to kill.
Might even drive it to work tomorrow. It hasn't been driven to work in 7 years.
