Wow, sounds thrilling, with a little psycho in the mix.
Johnny comes to mind for some reason, -
Jokes aside, what can you do in a predicament like that (?), just wait for it to blow over I guess. Phoning Johnny law isn't a guy thing, but in your case it might not be a bad idea. Hard to say, but man , what a thing to go through. Agreed, wish them the best and move on.
Yeah, it got to the point I was recording our nearly daily fights before the divorce. Haven't talked to her since and since she still doesn't have her driver's license and is at least a 4 hour drive away I'm not too worried about it. I'd considered it but she had threatened to file against me "because the cops always believe women." At least it didn't turn into a country song since I still have the house, my truck, and the cats.
So looking at the exhaust manifold on the driver's side I think I'm going to use SMA's method for removing it and cutting the nuts off then removing the manifold then the studs because they are in pretty bad shape. Just have to find or buy a torch. I tried various wrenches and nothing would grab onto the nuts to remove it. I could probably leave the driver's side since most of the exhaust leak is on the passenger front were the studs broke but I'm nothing if not a masochist.

The 98's original manifold nut's (the first manifold R&R performed on the truck way back when) were so bad/rusted, a 12mm socket fit some of them....they were originally 13mm. However, - as terrible as they looked, every one of them backed out with ease. The nuts didn't budge, they were fused to the stud, the studs backed out without a hitch. If you can get a bite on the nuts with something, they should be removable. Unless the studs are bent. Factory studs are a grade of stainless, the nuts are not. The stud threads in the head chamber will look new once removed....shiney new.
Yea, if the studs were bent or twisted, they corrode. That can occur inside the head threads and can be a mother to remove without proper tools. With a welder, welding a nut on the studs works, some occasions you might have to weld a washer on there , then a nut. The last header install I did on the 98 was the worst of them all. That was due to the style of header bolts use previously. Nothing would bite on them as they were 12 point header bolts. 6 or 7 of them needed a nut weld. No cutting, the nut was welded to the rusty 12 point header bolt heads. They backed right out after that. IME, as terrible as they looked on the outside, I haven't had one manifold stud break.
Well heat got my stuck brake lines out of the proportioning valve for my highboy lol. Didn't work on the carb. An old tractor guru told me I need acetylene level heat to get the brass nozzle hot. Sadly that's not in my current arsenal of tools (on the list once we move tho). Hoping a buddy near me has one or else I'm waiting till I head back to the parents house where the tractor is hanging out.

I got some stud removal bits but none of them seem to be biting the studs and a 10mm won't grab and an 11 is too large on most of them. This is an 03 so not sure what changed. I've been soaking them in PB blaster as well and can't get them to move at all so far. Haven't bought a welder yet but that looks like my next big purchase.
I don't know if you have them where you live but Pick-N-Pull is 50% off everything this weekend. So if you can break free from the BBQs and such for a few hours, it is worth going. A couple years ago I scored a full drop in bed liner with the Ford logo in it and the tailgate piece for $18.50. I can't remember the actual brand but it is the one you get at the stealership for hundreds of dollars. Time to go look for a stock air box so I can get rid of the K&N hot air intake the previous owner put on. There must be some other trinkets I need there as well. Happy hunting.
Did some mocking up today in between rainstorms. I am so sick of rain.... it is REALLY putting a damper on this project.
Looking good, White!
Meanwhile, my intake gaskets are still travelling around somewhere in Georgia, "currently in transit to the destination."
Called BBK this morning, and the rep said they'd file a lost mail claim, and send me out a replacement set today via express. "Not USPS, right?" said I. "No, definitely not."
AND, they misspelled the name of my street. (First letter "B" instead of "D").
