Thinking
Yes, I'm going to have to ask my friend the story again.... but the way I remember it was Jim Fosgate and a guy named Rockford made the car audio line. Anyway, he had a divorce, as I recall - she got the car audio side, he got to keep the home audio, which pretty much was all Dolby stuff.
He still lives in Heber, UT which is not too far from Park City, UT. The Rockford Fosgate amps of the 90's were a force to be reckoned with. Severely underrated wattage. I remember sitting in their demo van in 1996 and thinking my head was going to explode. Then about that time (96-97) one of the main designers was hired by MTX, and those amps were also severely underrated. Can't recall the model, but my Buddy had an MTX amp that was rated at 300W RMS. Damn thing came with two 35 amp fuses in it, and I've seen them dyno at 900W before.
I'm a car audio nerd.... along with South Main Auto, Makuloco, etc. I also watch Williston Audio and Steve Meade's youtube videos, LOL.

I wasn't repairing them, I was building them new. They went somewhere else for repair. I remember Sony having an issue with transistors in the late 90's. Back then, I don't think they had a "protect" mode like they do now. In my closet I've got a Sony 1992 receiver.... in 95/96ish, I was thinking of upgrading to a newer Sony because back then I was "all things Sony". I remember the guy at RC Willey (Utah's main electronic resale store back then) telling me there were issues with those and JVC receivers. He told me to go with Onkyo or Pioneer if I wanted to upgrade. I just kept what I had. For being a 2 X 50W RMS receiver, it cranks. I was running it at 4 ohms per channel too.
I was actually laid off from DOD back then because they purchased JBL and Harmon Kardon. We also made DOD guitar pedals, and Digitech pedals and processors. Really, really god stuff. Back then the "Grunge" pedal was HOT. Everyone wanted to sound like Kurt Cobain.
Ever seen the Digitech RP1000? My Buddy had one of the first one's made. Man, that was a cooooool pedal/processor. It had a WAH on it too.

Yeah, a lot of those pre-Class D amps crank and are very clean. Class D amps are efficient, but they suck for clean sound.
I love watching D-Will of Williston Audio dynoing the old school amps. Zapco, Orion, etc. all pack a MEAN punch.
This one is a newer amp, but check it out.....

Yeah, he's pretty big. It's been pretty cool to see him grow. I wish I could see when I sub'd to his channel..... gotta be 6 or 7 years ago.
Looks like more like 8 or 9 years ago.... this is one of the first videos the I laughed my butt off to. Freaking hilarious.....

No, didn't give up on it. The guy I work with has been "going" to bring me a newer OS for it to see if I can get it to work. Right now, it won't do much as it sits. But no, I haven't given up on it. My oldest daughter reminds me every couple days.... LOL.
