Anyone have any insight?
There is no "colder" air with the Gotts vs. the stock. They both draw from the same place, so temps are the same. Same with the amount of air, there's not any more air being drawn in (it's still a naturally aspirated motor). Driving habits, whether realized or not, contribute largely along with several other factors (ie going into winter when the mod was done, mileage usually goes down in colder months).

I should have been more specific, by colder I meant winter air, not the air the intake is taking in. I don't think I've changed my habits much, but who knows. I'll give it a few more fill-ups before I make a decision.

Thumbs up

Hey everyone ,great discussion. I just completed the "Gott's " mod (2002 4.6) and there is a definite increase in my throttle response. Particularly, in the higher RPM ranges. The hesitation I previously had when trying to pass was annoying , but it seems to be gone .Time will tell . I still haven't installed a "performance" air filter , but plan to get something that flows better ,this weekend. THANKS TO ALL .

Hey ladies and gents,
Just did the Gotts/DWV (I think read DWV somewhere anyway) mod last night with the PVC on my 07 Lariat SCrew. I will post pics later as I found a way to stop the 4x3 rubber adapter to not collapse on itself at high Rpms when towing (like some people complained)

Has anyone notice if removing the silencer has had any effect on performance or not? I don't like the idea of roto zipping it but if it helps it would be considered.

People claim it helps, but when Bill at PHP had the mod done and the truck on his dyno it showed gains with the Gotts and barely any difference with the Gotts and silencer. Maybe 1-2 hp on the VERY top of the powerband, but that 1-2 is also easily the margin of difference between dyno runs. IMO not really worth cutting into the intake and trying to plug holes for nothing.

Thanks. I hate to cut factory parts if I don't have to. Never know you need to revert to stock for something.

Finally able to get to my computer to upload pics of my mod.

I used the typical parts:

3'' Black PVC
3'' Black Femal to Female couple
4'' x 3'' Rubber adapter part# 23455 at Lowews
1 - SS Screw Band. (thats what we call 'em.)

The only thing I did different to stop the rubber adapter from collapsing as many people have said, is I got a piece od 3'' flexable AC Elbow. I seperated the crimped part from the rest carefully as not to leave a sharp corner or edge. The hardest part of this mod was seperating the stock air intake.

The parts I used. Note: the crimped portion of the flex elbow is on the bottom of it in this picture.

The typical setup

The crimped portion of the AC Joint stuck into the 4 x 3 adapter. I left the lip on so I would not shove it all the way in past the end of the adapter.

See no interference, still a 3'' hole all the way thru.

The final installation pic. With the AC joint in the 4x3 adapter I found that the hole was filled up a little better, took a little work to get it in the fender hole, and didn't move around as much. I think I still have some flex seal left over from my 64-1/2 mustang I want to stick around the hole to make a better seal.

Yes I did have to cut my PVC After the full assembly pic, I left the tail too long.

If anyone is still wanting to do this Mod. I hope this helps.

They're a lot better now than when I first did the mod, but I'd say they're about the same as I was getting pre-Gotts. I ended up cutting the PVC, putting the flex tube back in, and letting the computer reset for about 20 min this time. I think this may have all helped to a point

Sometimes disconnecting your battery for a little while helps the computer reprogram
