ABS pipe is already black, the same sizes as pvc and it's cheaper.

I also did the Gott's mod with the Fernco 4"-3" and Spectre hose. I had a hell of a time getting the 4" end tight that I had to use pretty much a whole roll of electrical tape to build up the intake on the 4" side. Everything else worked great.

Yeah I did the same thing. I should have gotten a 3.5 to 3 fernco. Hindsight 20/20

There's 3 kinds of pipe you can use. ABS and PVC in schedule 40. These require grinding/shaving to insert into the fender.
Then there's thin wall PVC drain pipe. You can get this in gray and white. It's thin wall may allow you to squeeze it through the fender hole without much trouble.

Default 2005 F150 4.6L SCrew

I actually have been meaning to do this mod forever. Finally got around to it this weekend. I bought 3" ABS PVC pipe (black), a 3" PVC coupler and some time. I originally did this on my truck because the snorkel that comes from the airbox to the fender never fit properly from original purchase (used); the clips holding it in were shot so the thing would vibrate consistently at 2000rpm (feel and hear a buzz). I ended up using duct tape around the snorkel where it meets the airbox and that solved it completely. After completing this mod, it definitely "feels" like its getting more air, mid-range seems a lot better but the vibration/buzzing returned I'm now going to see if I can located a rubber grommet big enough to fit the diameter of the PVC and use that to hopefully dampen the vibrations.

Update: think I found the source of the vibration. The legs that support the airbox to the frame, one grommet is pushed almost completely through so there's plastic touching metal with no rubber in between. Going to fix this and hopefully resolve it.

Update: yup, that was it. No more vibration. Excellent mod.

Default 2011 factory looks like CAI

This is a pic of my 2011 intake, I have the 3.7. I stuck my hand all the way into the fender, the opening is 3 1/2 inches wide. Looking into the hose at the butterfly, no inserts to remove. The filter is huge. I think this is a CAI from the factory.
