Sync 3 Memory Issue
Multiple resets, pulled the battery cable, you name it. Last ditch I'm doing to try is to d/l, unzip, and put on the USB on a Windows computer, though it shouldn't make a difference. I'm even going to pick up a new USB drive* and see if that makes a difference, I'm even going to try a difference unzip utility. Maybe mine is too far gone or my truck's APIM is from the point where you cannot do a reformat. I'm going to attempt the jail break.
*Protip, don't close the center console slider door if you have a somewhat long USB drive. It will get stuck and break the drive when you force it open. One of those drives that slide out. lol.

I helped Zenk with his setup, they just opted for a reformat install, so if you are familiar with the Cyanlabs utility, it's the same files/output/process that someone else mentioned earlier in the thread. I just prefer to build my installs by hand because I like to understand what is in them vs. trusting a 3rd party utility to do it for me. 20 years of working on computers will learn you to not blindly trust software just because it has an easy button
.
Until a time when Ford maybe admits there's an issue and produces an official utility or update to address it, fixing it will either be via a reformat process or the jailbreak process, so it's kind of up to the individual on how they want to approach it. MY20 and newer would have to jailbreak because reformatting will make their setup unusable.
Since the installs I compiled contain Ford proprietary binaries, I prefer not to post them publicly, but if someone wants them instead of using the Cyanlabs utility, feel free to shoot me a PM and I'll send the info over.

Hi @barrytone , can you help me understand how to do what you did? Please feel free to PM me, Im new to the forum and still trying to figure out how it works.
If you want to read into it/all about it, this thread uses the same process to allow people to go from Sync 3 to Sync 3.4 versions (since there is no officially supported upgrade path from Ford) - https://www.f150forum.com/f118/upgra...ctions-458828/
There is also a utility from a website called CyanLabs that alot of people use. It automates the exact same process with a few button clicks, so it's popular because of the ease of use. They have their own forum with very helpful admins for discussion of their tool.

Others much smarter than me figured out the actual process and needed files a few years ago, I just figured I'd share the most recent bits with those who aren't familiar with the process, as I had compiled a new install a few days prior to seeing this thread. In a nutshell, older versions of Sync allow a reformat utility to run, which basically wipes the APIM and reinstalls Sync from scratch. Where it benefits here, is that reformat wipes out the rwdata folder that is filling up. When you do a normal Sync update, only the "app" files in the update are overwritten/updated, so that is how the reformat method is different. The files I shared with others does a few things - removes Gracenotes, downgrades to a version of Sync that can run the reformat utility, then runs the reformat utility and extracts all of the Sync files and Nav data from the USB drive to the APIM.

Hey everyone. I have a 2019 Lariat and recently started having an issue with my Sync 3 system. Each time I get in my truck it asks me to confirm features, a separate screen about automatic updates and another screen about sync checking available networks. In addition to these, it does not keep my settings where i turn off the touch screen beep, I have to reset the number of preset pages for radio presets each time and the display mode and color setting does not save. Has anyone experienced this issue? I have checked the fuse, have a new battery and after 3 weeks at the dealer, they said it was fine. It’s not. Attaching screenshots of the displays mentioned above.
For those of you experiencing similar issues, I'm skeptical that a hardware change was the solution, but rather, it's one of the steps taken after that hardware change which may have solved the problem.
I suggest a PMI in IDS without performing a hardware swap could resolve this which may save some of you downtime in the shop.

I'm glad I found this thread. I just started having this issue about 3 weeks ago and it's driving me absolutely nuts. I'll try to message you @barrytone , but im a new member here and it looks like I don't have access yet.
Will you please PM me this solution? I’m new to this forum and desperately trying to fix this issue.

I got it to work, I literally cannot thank barrytone enough, my blood pressure thanks him as well.
If you are using Apple OS, don't use the built in uncompression program, I remember having issues in the past with Sync updates. Use Unarchiver, which is recommended by Ford Sync anyway.
I didn't run the memory program at first like we were supposed to do. I ran it, I had zero. Did a Master Reset and I had 8m, did a 2nd and I had 89m, gave it two more for good measure.
I was having problems where Master Reset wouldn't function, no "beep" and the screen would freeze. I disconnected batteries, I pulled fuses. I finally got frustrated and did a constant soft reset (VOL+Advance), I just held them down and it kept cycling until I got tired of it (a few minutes), then Master Reset worked. This would explain why it would stop working, but then after a few days it would work, then go funky again.
At any rate, so far, so good.
ETA: Truck sat overnight, fired up this morning, no pop-ups, it was on the XM station I had left it on when I turned the truck off, display was still set in night mode, 5 pages of radio stations. Success!
