Just picked up my truck from the dealer!

I now have Sync3 2.2.

I no longer have any cameras working except the factory rear camera.

We received an update from Rostra today and in summary they have the update ready for those running Sync3 v 2.1 and below and can be downloaded here: http://www.rostra.com/support/.

For those running Sync3 v2.2 upgraded by Ford the update is still undergoing testing but should be done soon. This would be a vehicle that originally had 2.1 or earlier and the vehicle performed an update, your dealer updated your Sync, or the update firmware came directly from Ford for your specific vehicle.

For those running Sync 3 v2.2 that rolled off the assembly line with that version (no upgrades) they are working on an entirely new interface device as they have found the existing model is not compatible by firmware upgrade.

If you upgraded your system by downloading 2.2 firmware from a source other than Ford they are saying their system is not compatible due to too non-vehicle specific firmware messing up CAN codes in the radio. In other words not all Sync 3 v2.2 firmwares are the same and elements are different among vehicle platforms.

Here's Rostra's explanation of what I have summarized above:
----------------------------------
Sync3 v2.1 <
We have just released the Sync 3 V2.1 and below update on the website for the 250-8452. This update will correct a situation where some customers have reported a black screen issue at times. The update is dated 4/1/2017. It has been running in test vehicles for one month and has been confirmed to correct the issue and run as planned.

It can be downloaded here with instructions at our Support page: http://www.rostra.com/support/

After many hours and days of working with customers I have found and confirmed that many people have updated their Sync3 system with updates that were not Officially released by Ford. They were obtained from other websites, forums, and support groups, but were meant for other vehicles originally. Just because a Mustang and a Focus may have the same looking Sync3 system, it does not mean the CAN codes and other data running the systems are the same. There are also different versions for systems with Nav and without Nav.

IF A CUSTOMER IS USING A VERSION OF SYNC3 THAT WAS NOT OFFICIALLY RELEASED FOR THEIR VEHICLE AND WAS NOT DOWNLOADED SPECIFICALLY FROM THE FORD SITE WE CANNOT SUPPORT THE ISSUE OR INSURE OUR SYSTEM WILL WORK CORRECTLY WITH THAT

For now:
• Customers with V2.1 and below can download the firmware update from our website
• Customers that have had the automatic update from V2.1 to V2.2 - We are waiting on feedback and testing.
• Customers that have used Sync3 updates from websites and such not intended for their vehicle - We are not compatible.
• Vehicles with Factory V2.2 hardware - We are building a new kit for these vehicles. Nothing is available at this time. I will keep you informed.
That is all the details available for now
------------------------------------

If you have purchased your system from us and have additional questions please contact us directly from our website or call 888-844-9763 as we do not always have time to monitor the forum.

Finally some progress and the factory upgraded 2.2 should be ready very soon.

Thanks for your patience while Rostra irons out the bugs in this interface.

Timing...LOL!

I've been having all the problems since the beginning with my camera's/Sync3 2.0 as everyone else has been experiencing.

I discover my Axel is leaking grease at the wheel. Drop off the truck for repair Monday...Pick truck up Tuesday (same day as the 2.1 below update is released) I'm told leak is fixed + my Sync3 2.0 was also updated to 2.2...On the way home, I discover the cameras aren't working...

Could've been enjoying the 2.1 & below update while the 2.2 is being ironed out, then when I/Ford would've updated Sync3 to 2.2 the Rostra update should (Assuming it works properly!) of been available for me to continue to enjoy. Instead, I'm stuck in the Twilight-Zone!

^^^ I thought the same thing when I saw your post, then Chris' post about the update right after! That does suck. Sounds like my luck sometimes too.

UGH!! So sorry! Have them flash it back to 2.0!!

FYI for anyone that has updated to 2.2 using the unofficial firmware I have a retail partner who also sells and repairs OEM radios and can reprogram your sync module back to stock for $99. I know it's more money to spend but at least you can get back to a known factory setting that works with the Rostra interface until everything is ironed out with the interface. The dealer can probably do it too but I don't know what they charge.

https://www.infotainment.com/pages/navrepair if you're interested.

Though not as ideal as Rostra having a solution for 2.2 it is an option if you don't want to wait. Hope they nail this down soon for all of us!

Chris,

just an FYI since there is some confusion on Rostra's part. The v2.2 16280 release *is an official release*. It was released by Ford to Lincoln vehicles and was made available in PTS (internal Ford tech website) and was pushed OTA to Lincoln vehicles during 4Q FY2016 and 1Q FY2017.

The newest release (OTA and PTS) is now v2.2 17011 and is nearly identical to the previous dot release, the only difference is that it has been homologated to include Ford branded vehicles in addition to Lincoln. There was never a 2.1 release, it went straight from v2.0 to v2.2.

Having said that, I am confused by Rostra's statement:

For those running Sync3 v2.2 upgraded by Ford
meaning v2.2 17011, since 16280 was made available to Lincoln OTA
the update is still undergoing testing but should be done soon. This would be a vehicle that originally had 2.1 or earlier and the vehicle performed an update, your dealer updated your Sync, or the update firmware came directly from Ford for your specific vehicle.
For those running Sync 3 v2.2 that rolled off the assembly line with that version (no upgrades)
that would also be v2.2 17011
they are working on an entirely new interface device as they have found the existing model is not compatible by firmware upgrade.
So I'm confused by the information Rostra is providing. I dont mean to contradict you or come off as combative, far from it. I mention this as I am still very interested in the Rostra solution and would like to get clarification from them.

Also, as an FYI, you cant downgrade Sync versions via USB. You need to completely wipe the APIM and reinstalling the code which can only be done with special dongles and IDS.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

J-

Ugh. Well i installed the new update last Friday night that was supposed to fix the blank screen and it does not. It does come back quicker when it goes out, but that is the only perceivable plus that I have noticed. I am not sure what is going on, but I have had Sync 3 from the factory and it is version 2.0. I am starting to wonder if there is something else going on causing these issues.

Rostra makes it sound like some people do not have the screen blanking issues, but I am not so sure. Everyone that I have talked to about the Rostra has them. I have updates turned off on my truck for the specific reason I don't want to to lose the Rostra altogether, but at this point I might just send it back for a refund anyways.

Which update did you install last Friday? I thought this new update just came out on Tuesday.

I actually bought my unit from a different distributor than others. They received the 4/1/17 update on Friday.
