Adding Front Camera to XLT
I finally got the new Rostra system installed a few days ago. Overall I like it and it does its job well without any screen flickering and navigation issues. Accessing the cameras via the Apps menu is fairly easy too so overall it feels very OEM-like.
The front camera does display though any time your speed is below ~10mph and stops displaying when you come to a complete stop. So at every stop light it comes as you slow down and then again when you start moving. I haven't set up the front trigger button yet but I think that is probably going to be my preferred method of activation and I'll disable the auto front camera setting. I agree with jdroller that mounting it near the push to start button is probably the best solution.
If you have side cameras, camera-source now says that brackets are pretty much required to get the cameras at the correct angle. They're a little bulky looking but get the job done. I did notice that my side cameras have the multi-colored parking guidelines on them which I haven't figured out how to turn off yet. The side cameras activate with the turn signal and stay on for ~3 seconds after which is nice.
The HDMI and USB cables are tucked behind the glove box since I don't think I'll use those much at all. Overall I'm pretty happy with the set up!

I'll post pictures of my set up tomorrow, getting it done today.
After you installed the new side mount brackets were you able to adjust the camera with the little U-Wire adjuster? I spoke with camera source and it was suggested that I make my adjustments before putting the lens/camera inside the bracket but that just doesn't make sense. I've played around with it, it is sort of hard adjusting, would be nice if it could be done once it's mounted. Please explain your method of adjusting.
I actually want the indication lines on the side mirrors. We had them on a Honda accord A few years ago, they became my absolute favorite feature of the car. What I did was parked in a vacant lot and placed coolers at different locations behind and beside the vehicle and move them around after measuring so I actually knew what I was looking at on the screen. I also did this with the front and back camera that I'm currently using on this vehicle and back camera on our other vehicles. Yes I'm **** but I must know what I'm looking at because objects on screen may appear closer than they really are or vice versa!
I'm not sure what the u-wire adjuster is. I did not notice an adjuster tool with the side cameras but I had them professionally installed so I might have just missed it. I will tell you that it was a pain to figure out how to adjust them. Once they're in the brackets its pretty much impossible to get them out again and we did not notice any type of set screw or means of adjustment that was visible to us.
We ended up finding out that if you grip the bracket with one hand for support, you can slightly push in on the face of the camera and it'll rotate if you force it. I'd test that option out carefully though since we might have different model cameras. Just have a plan figured out ahead of time to allow for adjustment. Seems like we're both pretty particular about things and the side cameras that weren't initially adjusted to the same and correct spot was driving me crazy. Good luck with the install and let us know how it goes!
Good idea about parking in a vacant lot to calibrate them. I see that in my future!
