I was thinking about seeing if they could program it to come on with an external switch (like the stock 360 camera switch). But I figured I could live with using the radio button.
My kit (front camera only) should arrive on Thursday.
once you connect the camera and the module, you press the volume/on/off button for 10 secs. It learns all the cameras. The rear camera works as normal/always, when you flip to reverse the guidelines (both static and dynamic) work as usual. The delay will also work.
Once you flip to D, the front camera starts showing the image and will continue to do so for 30 secs (timed) or until you drive to 7 MPH, just like OEM.
You can manually engage the cameras by holding the power button for 3 seconds, then you cycle through the cameras by pressing the button once.
To exit the "camera mode" (my term) you hit the vol/on/off button for 3 seconds and youre back to normal "stereo mode" (again, my term).
Whats cool is that the behavior of the "stereo mode" does not change when you engage "camera mode", that is, if you have the radio on, it stays on while you move to "camera mode". Similarly, if the radio is off, is stays off.
I think its a good solution because the button is much more accessible and its larger, so its easier to engage. Its also more comfortable than stretching your arm across to hit the location where the OE 360/Hazard button is at.
The front camera is a piece of cake to install. The side cameras, not so much. I hope to be done with both sides this week. We're hitting low 30s already (for a high temp) and the garage gets a bit crisp.
