1- All camera are the same technology
2- Different technology is used to the camera but either the module convert the signal or the APIM is able to intepret both

May guest would be #1.

What do you think ?

EDIT: oops, too small
Yes, that is correct. I took my tow mirror apart this weekend and that is where I plan to put the side cams.

No, their module does not use the OEM cameras. They use analog (hi-res) cameras and feed the signal to the display via the APIM, but its still analog. Their module acts as a bypass for the rear camera, which is different.

Ok then, consider this.

OEM backup camera = LVDS (stipulation...)
Camera source Front and side camera = NTSC

Camera source module ; both goth thru it.

But what comes out of it ?

What signal goes thru to the APIM ?

The camera source module video OUTPUT goes into the APIM input that the APIM input "thinks" that the signal is coming from the backup camera ?

Am I making any sense ?

You are missing a crucial piece, the IPMB.

So you think the IPMB convert the signal from LVDS to NTSC for the APIM ?

Exactly. And the apim doesn't have anything to do with video. Apim=accessory processing interface module.

Edit: not audio

Sorry, you're right, not the APIM but the FCDIM.
