Thinking
Yea I couldn't remember my first windows machine the other day, I was trying to lol. Anyway, it came to mind finally, it was a Gateway Machine W/W98. Then I got hooked on MAC for a good long while.
Wow old crap we are remembering. I remember having a TI unit, a Commodore 64, Apple GS2, then an HP with 3.11 (workgroups), then 95, 98, XP (I still have this machine) (I bypassed 2000 and Millennium), Vista, 7 and 10. I by far like 7 the best overall.
I never realized how many computer's I had over the years, until now. That doesn't count the 3 Raspberry Pi's (one of each model) and a couple Aurduino's. The stuff we collect over time. lol

Fixed my damn HD! You'll never guess what it was.....
Let me preface this story by saying that the 8TB HD that I bought came today.... which is what led me to figuring out what I had done. The new HD uses the same adapter as the old one, so instead of stringing a new adapter through the wire jungle, I figured I'd just reuse what was there. So I plug it in, and no spin up. At all. About to get on the horn and give WD a piece of my mind. Then I think..... all of this happened when I took everything apart to reorganize my "rack". So, I plug in the adapter that came with the new HD into my old HD..... and by the sound I could tell it was all better, and I instantly knew what had happened. Somehow I got adapters mixed up with something else. Then I remembered that both the HD and the new cable modem are 12V. However, the adapter that came with the modem is a 1 amp, and the HD came with a 1.5 amp. So, a little switcharoo, and it's all back to normal..... AND, I have a new 8TB HD. LOL.
That'll make you feel really stupid.

Fun fact.... I had Windows 2000 about a year before it was released, but at that time it was called Windows NT 5.0 - Beta version of course. It had a really unique startup sound, I remember.
I love Youtube.... here's the aforementioned startup sound:

I remember the furor when they changed it to Windows 2000. NT 4.0 was ok until you had to re-install it since you had to do SP 1-3 individually and then if you were lucky could go to SP 6. Most of the time you weren't lucky (or at least I wasn't.)
Changing the name confused everyone. At the launch party I went to, Microsoft said they wanted to differentiate it from NT 4.0, because it was viewed as a "business" based OS. I think there was also something to naming it how they did because it needed to look like they had a Y2K-ready OS as well.... but that is just a theory of mine.
I still have a copy of it, LOL.
I also went to the Windows 7 launch. Pretty cool stuff. If you get a chance, it's a cool experience.

I've still got dos 6.22 and windows 3.1 floating around somewhere. I had some fun with windows 98 too, built a new computer after XP came out and tried 98 on it. The processor was too fast for the OS and would give a divide by zero error from the network adapter when I installed. Fun times figuring out how to get that working.
Once it was installed it ran like a champ. Reason I didn't go XP was there were a couple games I had that wouldn't run on the newer version of Direct X.

Windows 2000 was an excellent OS. It was the first mainstream OS with NTFS. Windows NT had it before, but it was more of a corporate used OS. I loved XP. I love 7. And 10 is really starting to win me over. I am actually on a Windows 10 operated Surface Pro as I type this. My overall favorite net surfing device is my ASUS Chromebook though. I am thoroughly in love with that thing, LOL. I can run Android based apps on it as well. Microsoft also has an Android app for Remote Desktop. So I can be on my desktop PC (or any PC for that matter) with my Chromebook. The desktop's monitor is my 55" Samsung TV... and it isn't always available.
