Let me rephrase this. I'm going off wrong. On the left side of the EFI intake, I've run into the intake not being able to bolt correctly, do to one bolt on the left being off a tad. That is the best way I can say it. Drawing on pics only will confuse you because I can't draw a freaking circle. LOL.

Do you mean where the red circles are? Those are for the injectors.... I circled the other 6 in blue.

From Ford Performance.

Recommended Intake Gasket: Due to the wide variety of small-block Ford cylinder heads and
intake manifolds, it is mandatory that you verify the fitment of the intake gasket to cylinder heads
and intake manifold. The use of the wrong gasket can result in vacuum and coolant leaks.
Intake gasket M-9439-A50 fits Ford Racing "X" and "Z" series cylinder heads.

I know those are injector holes. LOL. It is Ford thing that some heads will not bolt to intakes in all the holes. All but one will fit perfectly on all the heads, but some have that 1 that will screw with you. You may of not run into that, but I ran a wrecking yard, and that is how I came across that.

I do understand what you mean about the crappy colt pattern though. There is quite a span up front between the first and second bolts back.

Seems like Ford was working on it Thursday night.... and were pretty concerned in the center..... and then Friday came and they weren't as concerned with the rest of the intake, LOL. They wanted to get home.

Yes. The span (perfect term) is a tad bit different on certain heads and intakes vs the EFI. Not all, but there are some where the intakes are off about 1/4 inch backward for the bolt, not allowing anything to hold the front corner with some combos. Mostly this is trying to use the older smaller chamber heads with fuel injection. It doesn't match up well.

Check this out. It is very similar to what I'm saying. Ford did a lot of weird crap at times. LOL

OK, I gotcha now. I missed this post. This is mostly a gasket issue from what I can tell. I use the Fel-Pro's though, and haven't has an issue. I've seen issues on Mr. Gasket's back in the day - those are junk gaskets, BTW.

I was like you, sure that there was only one combo that would work for the longest time. Then this guys comes in and want a certain set of heads. I went thru the SBF ones we had and found 3 in my inventory. He bought them. then we ran into the intake not fitting in one front left hole. The other 11 fit perfectly.

I did a lot of research (back then Google wasn't big, so it was all books and crap) and came up with one other casting that couldn't be used with the EFI intake. I had never ran into that before, but I certainly remember that fiasco. That took many extra hours of searching and with so little available, it took a few phone calls. You are not going to believe who game me the information. Shinoda Team Mustang. Remember the Shinoda Mustangs? That was many many years ago. I even spoke to them 6 years ago and bought a plenum cover from them. Still nice guys 15 years later.
