The heck with the email. Whitey, I was asking about Mercon vs Mercon III. Original was Mercon, still in truck, can III be used. I don't want to go to V and mix. When I put in lil Red's transmission it was completely empty and V went back in, but I also read where V doesn't mix well with Mercon.
I have 2 cases of Castrol III. If I remember right, it can mix with Mercon, but not with V. Is that correct?
BTW, if any of you were interested.... I read a review that Blupupher had done on Bob Is The Oil Guy's forum. It was on Ecogard oil filters. They seemed pretty decent, so I bought a couple for the 'Yota. But before I used them, I wanted to open one up and have a look-see. They seem pretty well built. I've definitely seen worse......
They do have a RUBBER drainback in them, which I would rather have silicone. But for some reason, this particular size - I can't find a silicone.

Holy crap... I typed a response to that, and swear I sent it. Guess not.
Yes, you can use it. However, if the truck has had Mercon V in it, don't go backwards. Directly after I answered, I put a link to Lubegard on this thread..... which is something I also mentioned in my reply you didn't receive. If you use the Castrol III in there, you can add a bottle of Lubegard (you need the GREEN bottle) to bring it up to Mercon V properties.
I realize some of that does not apply.... but just in case anyone is wondering.
That Lubegard is some really good stuff. I need to find out which one I need for my Escape, and my Toyota. I just put Mercon V in both of them, but I still like the Lubegard. It shifts much nicer when it's in there.
