Huge saga about replacing the alternator 3 times. Replaced the rear wiring harness at wife's insistence while putting in the third alternator. Drove the car to work and suddenly couldn't get codes from the OBD2 port (I had driven it a couple miles the day before running a bluetooth scanner and good data the whole time.) Shift solenoid fails and I manage to get it home about 4 days later (Friday night.)

Saturday morning go out to start working on the thing the battery is flat. Jumped it and got it running (and no I didn't cross the streams) and it seemed to run ok, Still no codes from the engine.

Sunday same thing and replaced the battery. Next weekend the battery was D-E-D dead again.

This weekend went through and did a draw test. 250mA being pulled from the battery with engine off and key out. Pulled the BTN2 fuse which appears to do most of the interior (not counting ignition and the shift solenoid) and drops to 150mA draw. Went through both fuse blocks and no drop below 150mA. Everything I'm finding says it should be below 50mA. About the only thing I haven't disconnected is the alternator.

About ready to do a mythbuster's style explosion with this thing.

I'm trying to figure out if it's the shift solenoid shorting causing all this grief. It appears to be hot even when the interior is disabled and as soon as the car runs for a minute or two it goes into failure mode and locks the shifter from moving. I haven't figured out what fuse it's even on.
That sounds pretty rough. I would be about pissed off if it were mine.

I'm past pissed off, tired of the wife complaining about being able to get her driver's license (the reason we bought it since she's too scared to drive my trucks.) If it wasn't for the fact I won't get what I've put into this thing just for parts I'd sell it and be done with it.

When I had an intermittent current draw situation on mine, I found that one of the harnesses plugged into the back of the GEM was not secured properly. Not too sure exactly WHY, but seating the connector all the way into the GEM cured my current draw situation. The GEM module is in the center console.... and is integrated with the fuse panel. The center console is a joy to take apart, BTW.

Just an idear.... might not be what you are experiencing. What sucks about the battery on these things is that they are a vehicle specific size. Last I checked that size only fits the Escape/Mariner/Tribute.

We really do have some great places to off road here. Going out to Delle, you passed several places too, LOL. Delle is mostly a place to stop and **** on the way to Wendover. Did you see the "T" on the mountain? I live right below the T.

Where in West Valley is it that you are working?

EDIT: The only pic I have of said "T" from my driveway, and it's pretty blurry.... sorry.

Drill.....looks like you could go for miles and miles more before you found anything out there. Looks dry, but fun to go on.

Whitey....those mountains look nice in the background. On the topic of the Escapes, you have them down now. I'm not sure on working on them, as I've never had one to repair. I've touched many models, but never an Escape. Weird, when I think back about that.

Yes.... I do know them pretty well, LOL. I can't even remember how many front wheel bearings I've done on the 1st gen Escapes. At least 10 though.... probably realistically 15. It is a really poor design (the bearing is pressed in to the steering knuckle).

Good little vehicles overall, just a couple glaring weaknesses - mostly associated with the 3.0 models though.

BTW, where Drill is in those pics is referred to as the "west desert". So yeah, it's pretty dry out there. Another 70ish miles west and he would have been to the Bonneville Salt Flats.

EDIT ----- 72.5 miles (close guess)
