Where did you go? Well look it up, should be plenty of info out there about this Ford defect white. That way you can familiarize yourself, mine had the same prob. Switching to heavier oil will just starve an old engines lash adjusters. These anyway. So wear ratings will be higher w/5 30...this is where the 5/20 syn blend comes in. If you go 10/30, you'll wear the adjusters out, it'll be one noisy engine running when cold with scratchy starts. Attempting to out think the Ford engineers on this one will catch up to yuh.

BTW- all 98 model years got the harsh synthetic gaskets. 97's did not. But they suffered the "Burr Problem". Just don't want you to make that problem much worse, -as many have in the past....re-engineering Ford Spec themselves lol.

I was wondering about the top end of the motor.... Good info... I don't want to grenade it over adding a quart every couple tanks of fuel. Thanks for the help.

How would you add too much oil ? You lost me there but yea, that's worse than running them low, you grenade the gaskets for sure in the long run/eventually. Folks do that thinking the top hash on the Ford dip sticks mean full lol. And they keep it there. Top hash is over filled. It's within safety margins to do occasionally. But you will spend your gaskets keeping it there.

My adjusters have been starting to get louder after the 300,000 mile mark. So they will last a good long time with the correct regimen. But Ford could of done better with the way they mark their dipsticks. It's why quite a few (me included) scribe our own line at the 6 quart level. Because there isn't one on the stick. Just a MAX line.

The Burr problem on the 98 was fixed by Ford Motor with my truck, after warranty, a little after. They ate that bill lol.

Let me rephrase that....

I don't want to grenade it with the 10W-30 (trying to slow the leak down), rather than adding a quart of 5W-20 every couple tanks of fuel.

Sorry, I should have proof read that, lol.

I swear some people are just stupid, point the finger anywhere they can but themselves. Some of those reports just blow my mind...idiots, shouldn't even have a license. The dumbest one is about the guys brother who died in Ford because it stalled on the tracks....unbelievable, but hey they were related , I can belive it.

Yeah... wasn't his fault for not getting out of the vehicle before the train hit? Wasn't his fault for playing chicken with the train in the first place?

Doesn't some of the complaints sound sort of familiar to some of the questions asked in the forum?

I couldn't believe what I saw, so I had to post it, where as the Chevy had real complaints, not this crappola. lol

Summary:
Location of the 4wd switch is near a/c fan speed switch resulting in accidental activation.
I can't even respond to this one.

I guess Ford mad it so the doors locked when they stall on the tracks as well. A conspiracy by god.

You know, and he starts off by saying he took his truck to Ford and they couldn't get the vehicle to reproduce problem that he was complaining about. So this person tells the dealer to keep the truck, like it's no good to him...junk. The dealer should of kept the truck there while this guy was making payments and charged him storage fees on top of it. I wouldn't even of touched that dirt bags truck. Ford probably didn't mess with that little man, but it's too bad they couldn't get him for dumb-*** slander. Not just slander, but "dumb-***" defamation of character or something or other.
