Thinking
Hmm that gets me thinking, I wonder if the PO ever changed plugs or coils on my wifes escape. Shes at 210000 we’ve had it since 140,000 and besides routine oil changes the only money I’ve had to spend on it was an $8 tone ring and a flat tire
im sure it will catch up to us sooner or later; just hoping on later when we plan to get her a newer vehicle
Anyway, pull up a chair. Started out by being an idiot and listening to the jackwagon at Autozone on which plug was plug 6. Half way through the job I told my brother that the guy wrote down the wrong cylinder position..... I said, this isn't a Chevy, Ford's plug 6 is on the front of the motor. Water under the bridge now because it sincerely needed spark plugs.
Anyway, we get it all back together, and it is still misfiring. Autel scanner says plug 6 still. I pulled the coil back out and find out the real coil 6 is bad. Went to NAPA and got a new one (not much choice out here in the sticks). Put it in, and everything is OK. So, we go to lunch. Got back in it after lunch and the bastard starts misfiring again for about 10 seconds, then evens out. Couldn't get it to replicate again, so he drives all the way back home - which is about an hour away. He lets it sit an hour, then goes to the store. Stupid thing is misfiring again. I told him the only thing I can think of is a fuel injector, so had him stop and get one. I let things sink in more, and figured that it must be a short.... not an injector. He gets to my house and it's running like a dog with a busted hind leg. I started wiggling wires and harnesses when suddenly cylinder 6 coil puffs into smoke. Brand new coil..... gone. Figured it was a junk coil.... I have a few DG508's laying around so although the configuration is different for the bolt and harness, it will work in a pinch. So I plug it in, and about 15 seconds in I start wiggling the wire harness for the coils again, and POOF. Another coil. Got the old Klein meter out and discover that the harness has at least 2 shorts for the cylinder 6 wire. I said to hell with it, and just traced the wire back to the PCM and ran a new wire. wound up redoing the harness for the front coils too. What a stupidly horrible job Visteon did on that harness (pretty sure its a Visteon).
It's all better now, but it had my head spinning for a bit. If you look at the valve/cam cover, you can see the burn mark on cylinder 6.

The Ford dealer across from the Master Muffler is right next to my Buddy's neighborhood (the one that builds transmissions).
Well Thinkers... I never get a day off, lol. My Brother called last night, and is on his way over right now so I can fix his cylinder 6 misfire on his Escape. His has over 200,000 miles on it now, IIRC, so not a bad run for the coils.

Which Walmart? LOL....
I'm going to guess 3100 South and 5600 West? That is the worst one.... kids running around unattended, nicely dressed people, LOL. I swear the "people of Walmart" webpage is half done at that location.

Whitey.....I certainly wish our Modulars were that open to work on. lol. Nice catch on the injector wiring, but too bad you smoked 2 coils. At least you didn't have to run all over trying to find it. 2 thumbs up to you buddy.
Think I musta got confusing. It was the coil wiring. But thanks a lot Buddy! It means a lot from a guy like you AK!
Well finally I found the last piece I needed for my blue truck that has never been there since I've owned it in 09. I was on eBay and for the first time in over a year, there was a battery/mega fuse plastic cover available. I found one this summer for lil Red, from an Expy, but I only found out recently that Blue didn't have one. It finishes off my last item for Blue and still leaves me looking for the drivers side cowl panel for lil Red. My final piece I need.
I thought I'd throw in a picture from across the Inlet of downtown at night. It's only a small representation of the city, but still it looks nice at night from Earthquake Park.

Holy ****...what a day, LOL. It indeed had all original coils, and 5 original plugs. It had an Autolite plug in it.... I figure someone corrected a misfire and took the cheap way out. This thing has 206,000 on it now.

Yea they tap 1 coil wire, sometimes specifying which one to tap with a vehicle starter install (is my guess at the problem). Heard of it happening in the past. Sort of like suffering the life and times of a half *** hack. Sounds like you may have did a bit a suffering to me lol. Another reason for mentioning this is because it was an ignition harness issue. The way installers tap this harness is either with a "clamp on" wire connector or they strip a section of insulation off a coil wire and just wrap their wire around it lol. They are taught this, their so called professional install that will eventually compromise the harness in the future. They do this because to do it correctly would take more time. That's because there isn't a quick way to seal a T or intersecting wire add on. Like you would with say, -just a single wire repair incorporating adhesive heat shrink.

You bring up a good question. I wonder who is contracted to put these wire harnesses together (?). Ford would have to engineer them I guess. Honestly the jobs these guys do on wiring harnesses is amazing when you think about it. My only complaint would be using the smallest gauge possible in a harness. It works as long as the harness isn't over stressed at some point. However, securing the harness from stress is figured into the install with stiffeners and supports as a preventive. It's up to techs/mechanics and hacks who work any vehicle to re-support the harness as it was before they touched it. This is the step that gets swept under the rug when on the clock lol.
Anyway, great trouble-shooting white, you stuck with it!
