Agreed, I need a pension and retirement plan, whatever I wind up doing. I have also talked about going back to school. I've had aspirations for owning my own fabrication shop for years and years now. If there is one thing I am well known for at work, it is getting things to work/mount in places they were not intended to, lol.
I'd look at a Union shop. Put it this way, I'll make much more fully retired than I do now semi retired. But I also put in double the time when younger. 80 hrs a week on average, my personal record is 102 hrs in one week lol. You miss out a lot working that much, but as you get older, slow down that pension is a Godsend. Pensions are life annuity's

Yeah.... I'll be 42 in two days, and right now is the time to decide what I need to do.

Might just stay where I am and go to the tech school for a few months and take their fabrication and welding courses.

I played it safe and stuck with a career I liked that met all the requirements.

That other stuff, -it was fun to learn on my own as sort of a hobby. Protect the family and future first. That other stuff, in my own time. Not much of a gambler. I like the way it worked out.

Still have time to put in 20 years. Which would be like SS x 2 when you retire, at least or an extra hundred grand when you retire, at least..but I'd take the annuity unless your health is deteriorating much too quickly.. Add in a 41OK if you have any priors. You could still fair very well without too much thought.

Stay in the best shape you can though, well take care of yourself anyway. When you get older and witness folks who have done real for themselves, retire and health care costs just eat a good portion of it away. You'll want steer clear of that.

Improve your diet when it begins to matter. You know like lots of taters w/o, yea skip the gravy. Drink cranberry juice (g-mas fav 4 98 yrs), coffee black, Green 90 proof causally sipped, a spoon of shark guts over bloated oats...

Watch out for doctors once you get older. I've been informed they get all evil to the elderly. So you may want to trade up as deterrent to unwarranted probage.

Shark guts over oats? I'll just go quietly. But yes, your health is the best investment one can make. I ain't got a lot but I'm sure Steve Jobs would have been happy to trade places with me.

Brew... I am on a low carb, high protein diet - permanently. Haven't had taters for 14 months, and don't really miss them either. I quite enjoy the meat, eggs, and cheese though, lol. I get my fiber via almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc.

I was sitting on my little step ladder in the garage today, and thought this view looked pretty sweet.

Also got a set of motor and trans mounts for the Escape today. Got some work to do on it tomorrow.

Just so you know, when I say stuff like that, it doesn't really require a response. Best to leave it alone..for the most part, it's just endured.

True that about Jobs...sad.

LOL... it's been non-stop for a while. I also have to re-gasket the oil cooler on it. It's leaking like a sieve.

Should have mentioned that I also got the truck inspected/registered today. It got inspected, and the keys never left my pocket. Funny....
