Bill: This is the panel I use. It works fine until I park the truck next to the garage and get only about 5 hours of morning sun. I have an alarm system in the truck, though and an aftermarket head unit.
At what point ? Realize, full sleep might not occur for almost 2 hours after shut down. At least the 98 took that long to enter sleep.
Potentially useful; interesting in any event..Thx...!

I cannot imagine any where else to properly monitor it.
I was imagining bridging a battery terminal, then breaking the post to terminal connection. But, a cheap VOM rotary switch does not, "make [the next connection] before break." (Long ago I could design one from scratch.) But how a DVM works when changing scales, I've no idea. They tend to autorange.

IFF... That is 5 peak hours, it should be more than enough, using the 50 ma figure, several times. Still a few times over with the 85 ma figure. How long do you commonly abandon your truck at a time to experience this?
Oops, Alarm System...!!! Head units? Not v familiar w them.
I used 100 ma in calculations. In 24 hours that's 2.4 Amps in an hr but with good light all day, 5 hrs is thevacceoted industry standard, which then yields a 7.6 W panel, if you use 16v & it gets good sun all day.
So, maybe you need better sun, but I suspect the alarm system... Hmmm?!?
I bought this 40W months ago for $75. I've seen it st $70 but it's $80 now. It's ~ 12.5 x 48". IP 67, & 24% eff. It reflects less into your eyes, driving.
This looks the same w 4 panels vs 6 in the 40w unit.
1.6 A, 30 W, only 12.5 x 32", $48
We needed only 1A, and even that is slightly more than needed, with many margins built in.
EDIT: This is a better watt per $ than the 40 W unit, a tad unusual. But it should fit even an old VW bug... 12 V, of course.
EDIT 2: I know my 40w was overkill, but actually bought it to supply some other appliances which require, 3A for 5 hrs, or that equivalent on a 24 hr basis. I did this checking for someone else. She's rural and has had an issue since her hubby forced a remote start on her car.

Typo? I see 50-85 ma. Not 0.50 ma.
No , not a typo. What does' "can't recall" mean to you?
Give me a break it was quite a while ago for me... drawing from memory. You've obviously spent time on it recently .
Regardless, you seem to of understood enough of the post..it should help never the less.

Yes indeed. You remembered the number... Just slipped the decimal point. This new phone puts a period down if I do not, but I want a couple blank spaces, unless I am very patient with it. Sometimes a smart phone makes one look dumb. I was giving you the benefit of any doubt. That fly better? 😉
Really, I was trying to make you look good, but I was too subtle.

Just got home from Moms.
Glad I went over to disconnect the charger; the plug was a pain to pull out of the old trouble light hanging from the ceiling.
And then the darn cord would not retract.
