Has anyone taken a mechanical HD apart. Last resort I guess. Backup storage drive that froze up from non use. It didn't lock up in a machine. Think it's just stuck. Lots of family pics, vids on that drive.
Been after that stuff for about 3 years now off and on.
What about taser or shock therapy ? Ahh.... maybe I'll save that for last. Wish it didn't have to run to read.
Yes, not necessarily fried. IME there would be some kind of warning sign before and if it died all together. It just didn't work the next time I connected up. Hoping the motor is just stuck vs sudden death I guess.
Any way to spin it manually under the cover, jar it loose ? The you know, throw it back together, give it another shot ?
Oddly enough, putting them in the freezer can sometimes make the motor go again.
Attempted that last year, just once and not very long in there. Little concerned about the moisture that might create. I'll look around, see if there's been much success there.
