Did you find a good replacement belt ?

Had a hard time when I replaced it last on the 98, during covid when I purchased one last. Couldn't get a Green Gaterback, went with this one, -

Amazon Amazon

Hard to install, very tight. The water pump bearing went out within 1000 miles. Not sure if it was the belts fault, the tensioner wasn't bottomed out. The pump itself (Motorcraft) still looked new inside.

Questioning the belt. New Motorcraft pump as of 4 months ago, used the same belt. If it fries the bearing again, guess that answers the question. Truck is rarely driven though, it'll be awhile.

Yes, just installed tonight along with a tensioner and idler. It's a Gates that looks just like that one (same p/n, K080991HD). Didn't seem too tight to me, and the tensioner arrow is where it should be. The squeak is gone.

This truck is so nice to drive after all the work I've done. It's so quiet and smooth now.

Good, you went Gates over ACDelco. Like I said, not sure if it's the belt. Questioning it though.

EDIT: Replaced the tensioner and idler as well. Tensioner (no arrow) was ACDelco, Idler was Gates.

Mine has a Gates K080991 on it. The guy put it and a Gates tensioner pulley on the truck the night before I picked it up... so it's been on there a spell. But you can still read the numbers on it.

EDIT: I had no idea he was replacing them. He told me that he started the truck to move it, and noticed it was squeaking a bit, and he didn't want to sell me a truck that needed fixed.

It's funny how doing anything on the front of this engine is like sticking your hands in a blender. I have little cuts and scrapes all over my hands.

Ohio put up an interesting link recently about Goodyear Gatorback belts are now labeled Continental. Could be why I had a hard time locating one. AFA the Motorcraft stuff, sellers couldn't give me a delivery date. I did give up on it too easy though, could of called around local...didn't. So I guess choice for me now is Continental belts/hoses, Gates and Motorcraft of course.

Not familiar ACDelco stuff, anybody else ?

EDIT: Found that link Ohio posted earlier, -
