I believe this T5 is for Frankie. Nice to retain the standard gearing.

Yes, the body shop did everything.

HD had a bunch of mild steel sheets of 22 when I went yesterday. My neighbor does fabrication for work, and he brought me a stack of "coupons" to fiddle with on my new MIG. It sure felt like the same thickness as that 22.... but I could be wrong. I'll have to caliper it out.

Late last night, my other Buddy texted me and asked if I want to sell the LX hatch, LOL. So, I'll put it back together and sell it.

Hole plug backers , -

https://www.eastwood.com/welders/wel...d-backers.html

They work great for holes like that. I use the copper spoon to get started. Once you make a good starting point, you build off the weld.

It's a PITA clamping something up like that. I use the spoon on the backside, get some weld at the holes perimeter....maybe in a couple spots depending on the hole. Then the rest of the hole without the backer/spoon. Once you create a few good spots around the hole to build from, a backer isn't needed.

Oh, I thought you were referring to welding wire lol.

22 gauge metal ? Good luck with that, I draw the line at 18 lol.

Unless your double patching for some reason. (?)

Hadn't really thought about doing anything like that, Brew. Damn...

Do you know if brass works too? I can possibly get some brass pieces for free. For yesterday, I would have had to make my own backer (maybe out of a piece of pipe)? Not much room to work with in that access hole.

EDIT: Answered my own question on the Hobart forum.

Just mic'd it. It is 22. Also mic'd the panel we cut out of the parts car, and it's 20. Turning the welder all the way down and tacking it the whole way worked out though. I was blowing through the existing metal on the hatch. I didn't blow through the patch at all.

There are three high schools right close to me. All three won their football games this weekend.

Combining all three of the scores of their games, they won 142 to 7. Pretty impressive.

Brass ? I don't think so, I know you can use it tho, - better than nothing in a pinch I guess.. I have a bunch of copper platting hanging around, - up to 1/4" anyway. I was going to do something with it about 25 - 30 years ago, then changed my mind. Been trippin over it ever since.

Oh I see, you must of patched over it then. Not filling a big **** void or butt welding a piece in. I think I'm following finally..... there's too much goin on at the house today, damn needy people lol.

Glad it worked out!

I'll go through the scrap pile at work and see if I can find some copper. I'll need it for the piece between the door and rear tire.... that is another project I need done before winter.

I'm bummed.... transmission didn't show up today.
