I kind of see that slightly on a cheap car that I've used for years. Not an F150. This is an urban car.
It goes into storage for a year on average then used for a bit...
I once left it for 4 yrs un started in storage.. On average though it's 7-12 months for storage. That one time it was left for 4 yrs.
All the fuel evaporated from the full tank of gas.
Took it to a garage to fix the fuel pump.
Not sure how he started the car or if he lubricated any cylinder walls.

I doubt he did. Runs ok but there's a slight vibration I can feel when holding the steering wheel in idle....
kind of pinches in fuel consumption department.
it doesn't consume engine oil though.

I would do a leakdown test before I condemned an engine. If you can get a cheap boroscope from somewhere I would do that too. It is a lot of work to get that engine out. Easier to remove the cab if you have a place to do that. I've seen people remove the cab outside in some 4x4 framework then take the frame into a garage to work on it.

If it doesn't smoke from the tailpipe or use vast quantities of oil, the rings and walls are probably OK. The walls and rings are a very durable material and can take quite a bit of abuse as long as there is some oil getting to them.

thanks for the info !
I'll look into it.

No check engine lights popped up on dash!
hard to find a mechanic that takes stuff like this seriously...
I asked one to put a bore scope in the engine .....looked like he could care less - told me the way you take care of your car you shouldn't worry.
periods of long inactivity would be the vehicle's demise if anything at all.

Need to ask. Does anyone have the repinning drawing for the SOTF motor? I'm hoping someone has it so I can send it to a buddy out in the bush. I'm trying to keep from crawling under there and doing a wire by wire drawing if I could be lucky enough to find someone with one. Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, I'm "thinking" so I'm here to ask. ROFL

If you store a tractor for 6-8months, after your season's work is over as opposed to a pick up truck (both with diesel engines)
which one would have more damage with start ups after storage is done ?
the tractor or the pick up truck ?

If you use lower end diesel there is more sulfur content that kills microbes, so if it sat in your fuel system for up to a year there would be less fuel degradation.
how about cylinder walls on a diesel engine as opposed to gas...which one is worse or better and how to counter act it ?

I just noticed that they welded (maybe welded) them together in the center also. Weld make strong!

Now that's one hell of a welding job. Glad they test the welders before they allow them to put together pipelines. That mess is just a crap collector for any road debris.

Maybe a hotter arc at the tip would have flowed better?
