I just took the Mongoose out for a spin around the neighborhood. Yep... out of shape is my middle name(s). I hardly rode it at all last summer.
Our forecast looks somewhat decent for the weekend. It's only 38 right now though, which is part of why I but the ride short.
Oh...... and I got these today in the mail. I didn't realize the guy that painted my car put goofy rusted bolts in the plate. I had some stainless hardware in there. So, I just ordered some new bolts.
Enjoying the "unique Fords" talk and pics. I need to get back to fun this year, and car shows have to be in the list.
"Jalapeño Red!" My buddy's dad had an '85 in the same shade. He and Mom went on vacation, and we and the car went to the track. There's been a trophy floating around somewhere for the last 35 years or so that Dad still may not know about. Lol!
Had to go to Denver yesterday morning, and Hwy 24 was a friggin' skating rink. Had a couple of butt-puckers on the trip (other drivers' dumb***** moves), but remained unscathed.
I have a similar story, LOL. I thought the 87-93's were gorgeous back in HS, but never really thought about owning one. In the summer of 1993, my Buddy bought an 86 coupe with a 2.3 about the same time that I bought an 85 Subaru GL. Naturally, we raced... and I won. Well, that prompted a reaction for him to get something faster. In about February of 1994, my Buddy bought an 85 GT (paid $2400 as Irecall). His parents told him that he couldn't drive it, put it on the insurance, or register it until the 86 was sold and gone. One night, his parents left and he knew they'd be gone for a couple hours. So, we did what any normal teenager would.... got the old 85 GT out for a little "let's see what it'll do". Both of us remember clear as day that when he dropped the hammer for a 1st/2nd pull, I told him "I'm getting one". Annnnd, in April of 1994, I too had an 85 GT. Shortly after another friend bought an 88 LX, which smoked both of us. That got my gears in my head turning, and in January of 1995 I bought The Eight Nine for $4200. That was a killer deal in hindsight.... it had just turned 6 years old.
Probably oughta put that story on the film.... I'll see my Buddy on May 8th. Maybe I can talk him in to getting behind the camera, LOL.
EDIT: Sweet.... Tuckers moved to UT. Close to Matt's ORR.

I love hearing stories like this about "what we did when I was a kid." I always wonder about how the same people would react if they caught their own kids doing the same thing? or
My dad told the story of he and his friend making nitroglycerin in the friend's basement, then taking it to a field and shooting at it with a . 22 rifle. When one of them hit the target, it apparently made quite the noise *and* quite the crater. One if the moms asked the men, "What would you do if these two did that today? " to which the dads replied in unison, "We'd kill 'em."
Whitey: I've always wanted a black '82 GT. I had a chance to buy one before my '87, but decided against it then. Today, unless I happened across the proverbial "my son owned this car, and I just need to sell it" barn find, an '82 today (and the parts to make it correct) are probably out of budget.

The Pantera was synonymous with the Cleveland. I don't remember if I ever put this together before but the car outlived the engine but still had the Cleveland. Looked it up and the engines were coming from Australia until 88 when they quit making the engine too. Cleveland's were followed by Windsor's and then the 302. Interesting though was the 302's were marketed as 4.9L engines instead of a 5.0L. I wonder what that was about? It seems like they were turning their back on the additional marketing power of the Ford 5.0 to the casual observer?
EDIT: Is that a stock red color on your Mustang? I like it but don't remember ever seeing it.
Listed as a 4.9 is actually correct. What we refer to a 5.0 is only 4.94, so legally it is a 4.9 and not a 5.0. Ford just fudged the numbers a bit to call it 5.0 and compete with the Chev 5.0 at the time in size reference, not power lol
Yes, they are going through the roof in price right now. You still get lucky now and then though. The convertible in my latest video (white with a blue hood) was purchased right after I got Frankie for 700 dollars... turn key.
When I bought my 89, the guy was in desperate need to sell it. His son had just turned 16 and he had just got the new insurance quote. When I went to see it and buy it, he was actually about to stab a 351 into a Fairmont that was originally a 4 cylinder car. So, that was a much friendlier insurance option. I sure would like to find him and show The Eight Nine to him now. After I bought it, I found a Chevron credit card receipt (old school swipe receipt) that was from 1990, as I recall. The lady's name was Lisa Manning, and I have messaged a bunch of Lisa Manning's on FB, but never get an answer. Oh well.... AFAIK, I am the third owner. And the buck stops here!
Do you guys know if there is any way that I can tell the history of the sales, etc.?
I was told that Frankie was originally in Hawaii when new. I don't know how true that is, but it does not have defrost, and I did find a dead centipede in the on the back on the engine block.

I had heard that it was a 5.0 so it wouldn't match the 4.9 for the 300 six cylinder and cause confusion.
I learn something new every day. Then the mad cow disease removes some of it.
