White, saw your post about the Essex and Windsor plants. Particularly around here the two often get melted in to one yet they are about 10 miles apart. The Windsor plant is actually in Downtown Windsor. Before Ford shut down WCP, Windsor Casting Plant in 2007 it was even more interesting. It wasn't even an overtly Ford plant and they did castings for a lot of people besides Ford. Still news would occasionally come out with something like GM's new engine is being built by Ford at the Windsor engine plant when all it was some parts were being cast at the old WCP.
What made me think of telling you this was the casting plant was closely tied to Bain Capital and Mitt Romney. Again another Utah reference. The WCP also cast for Evinrude, Ski Doo, Sea Doo, Can-Am and Rotax. All owned by Bombardier, a Canadian company 50% owned by Bain.
Tremec, just this morning, announced a new 5 speed trans call the TKX. It sure as hell looks like it is the same size as a T5 to me. It will handle 600 lb. ft. of torque. That'd go right nice behind a 351, for sure. This may or may not interest a couple of you as well.
Well, here is some good info.... for a Chevy page, LOL. (It also has three shifter spots, Rivers)
Now that we have discussed the technical aspects, I know the next question you want answered is, how does it fit? We asked Kidd that same question, “We actually installed the TKX in several cars,” confirms Kidd. “It was bolted into a ‘70 Chevelle, third-gen Camaro, a Fox-body Mustang, ‘69 Olds 442, and a Firebird Sprint owned by Jay Leno.” Each time, once the transmission was in place, The folks at TREMEC were more than happy with the clearance available between the transmission and the transmission tunnel area.
A lot of people are going to enjoy not cutting up the tunnel for a new engine and\or transmission fit.
Does the rear position flip for a middle position? It looks the same as the TKO where the rear position doesn't flip. What I saw this morning didn't get very specific about the transmissions features. It was more on specs but didn't say anything about gear ratio choices. The article was short and thin on info and more of an announcement.
EDIT: OK, read your link and saw that the rear position does flip and offers 3 different gear ratios. It's a good looking transmission. One thing they don't mention in the article is bellhousing support. It was nice with the TKO I didn't have to cut or lengthen the drive shaft. How does the 31.28" length work for the Fox Body? My mistake on the rear position flip for the TKO. They are the same.
