A guy in the Mustang group I am in told me he ran the Spectra for 2 years before he did the 351 swap this spring. He told me he'd sell me his for 15 bucks, or told me "just get one on Amazon". He's the guy I got the bracket from, so it's about a 2 hour round trip drive. I decided to just order a brand new one off the Amazon. I'm not keeping this thing, so after some heart string tugs... I went for the cheap route, again. If it was my 89, this would be a completely different story. Probably get an MSD or an Accel.

The 89 came with the distributor everyone likes... for some reason the units with a sticker that says GAY (I know, Ford didn't really think that one through), then they seem to be the best of the best.

I ran into that problem when we put in a roller cammed 302 into a 84 F150. It screamed. We used the oem distribultor and that was wrong as hell. It started wearing the gear off in just a couple minutes. That's when I found out about the gear difference. That was back in 05. The gear put pressure against the housing and caused that whine also. Not like yours, but a definite howl from the lower bushing.

I'd say you nailed the culprit.

I pulled it thinking maybe it was the gear too.... but the gear looks perfect, and you saw the rest. It seems to be up at the top. Not too sure if it has a bearing or a bushing. Do you know?

We at one time, talked somewhere on this F6 forum about rear wheel inner liners and they being discontinued. Well, playing around today trying to find the discontinued numbers, low and behold. I found the right and left, individually still available. The kit is discontinued only. The left is kind of pricey, but the right is down right manageable. Tasca shows both in stock and the numbers are

The right

YL3Z-8427886-AA

the left

YL3Z-8427887-AA

Hope that helps someone who was searching before.

Look at this POS after about 45 seconds of running. Spectra Premium = JUNK.

Damn Whitey. I thought I'd never have to see another one ate up like that. That is exactly how my 84 roller 302 was. It just ate them up until I got the steel.

Funny. I live in AK and get great service out of them. I've only done 4 orders but never a problem. In fact, I just ordered a set of CS/GT rear splash guards from them on the 18th and they shipped on the 24th and I got them on the 28th. I still have them sitting since it decided to rain and blow the past 2 days. Maybe Wednesday. LOL. One can hope.
