What an eventful day.... first, I got the floor done in the bathroom. I put some extra cushion and water/vapor barrier under it. It's kinda cushy.
Then let me start with the back story.... when I was getting Frankie to TDC to stab the dizzy, my dumbass left the breaker bar and socket on the crank bolt, and I started the motor. The bolt came right the hell out and fell on the ground with the breaker bar. Well all that I saw was the bolt..... and no damage. So, I just put the bolt back in, and it's been like that since then. Fast forward to today.... and after I put my EGR delete on the car, I decided to start her up and see how it did. Good news is, it has quit dying when it comes back to an idle. While it was running though... all the sudden it started shaking a little more than normal at idle (the E303 makes her shake a bit). I got out to look and noticed my belt had one rib that was hanging over the edge of the pulleys.... ****! I shut it off and started to investigate. I looked down and the crank pulley was about a half an inch out from it's usual position.... and I could see the harmonic balancer was the culprit. I thought "damn it, I guess I didn't tighten the damn bolt very well. I got a socket on her, and it was tight.... so I decide I'm going to pull the balancer and investigate. I got my pick and got in there to remove the washer.... and I'll be damned if the washer is MIA. Apparently the washer also came off when I had my little mishap, and it is still nowhere to be found. I looked all over the place again... no washer. Luckily Cal Ranch had a perfect fit for it. She's all assembled again, and it seems happy. I do believe, however, that I've got a bad dizzy. I've had this "whine" sound that I've been blaming on the P/S pump. But I noticed the whine was still there when I started it without the belt. I also keep getting a random backfire on deceleration. I think it's got a wonky bearing in it... otherwise there's something going on internally, which really makes no sense.
Anyway.... it was quite a day today, LOL.
Oh.... and I've suddenly got a neighbor that wants me to work on their BMW because they always see me working on cars. I'm going to go have a look, but I'll tap out if it's not something obvious. They say it's leaking some type of fluid and makes a rattle sound.
need to start looking for one. I have two brand new units sitting here, but they are both for a 351 only.
Thanks, I'm sure glad my Wife got most of the floor out before I got home. I'm still waiting on some of the caulk molding to arrive from Amazon. HD changed the brand they carry. They used to carry Homax, but they've switched to a brand called Magic. The new stuff has horrible reviews on their webpage. So I ordered the top rated stuff on Amazon.... 5 stars. I don't want that stuff coming back off and leaking.
Welp... this is the noise I hear. He says in the description that it was indeed the distributor. You can probably tell why I was blaming it on the P/S pump.

Just FYI White. BMW is specialty tool central. To remove their injectors is $75 tool and they're only good for one injector. There are actually Mercedes and BMW used tool brokers for mechanics that do a lot of work on the cars.
Stupid Amazon damn near screwed me over..... I noticed there were two distributors listed on there for my car. I started wondering why the hell Spectra would make two different part numbers for it. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks... I investigated and found my hunch to be true. It technically fits, but the damn thing has an iron gear. That'll chew the living **** out of my cam. These roller cams MUST have a steel or composite gear.
So, I cancelled the order. Back to the drawing board.
