Well remember what "they" say, the only stupid question is the one you never ask except when 1.) The question leads to getting slapped in public. Never get slapped in public. This feller in the Mustang group I am in kept shredding belts.... he posted a pic of the way the belt was tracking.... it was climbing the grooved (flat) water pump pulley. The pulley before it by rotation is the power steering pulley... and I told him that was probably the problem. He said no way, a shop installed it, it's gotta be right. So, another member of the group went over last night, and verified my suspicion.The PS pump pulley sits out too far.

Thanks to brew's quick wit and willingness to share, it never entered my mind until just a few short days ago how much contextual information there is in a "Girly Voice."

While trying to avoid making any assumptions and considering his faith in "a shop installed it" maybe remind your buddy more cowbell doesn't translate to more ribs as a solution.
Yeah, it's too bad. The reason I really started getting my hands dirty a lot more often is due to terrible shops. One particular thing that I remember was when shortly after I bought my Mustang, the fuel pump went out. I dropped the tank, and replaced the pump. It had an issue after I replaced it.... If I let it sit for a while, it would run OK, but gradually run worse and worse. So with very little knowledge, I took it to a shop called Tunex in WVC, UT. The funny thing is, they were right - but so wrong in their diagnosis. They were right in the fact the the fuel return had become pinched between the tank and the body when I put the tank back in. HOWEVER, the way he "diagnosed" it was by removing the hose in this picture, spraying air in there, and listening by the fuel filler. There was no air heard, so he proceeded to find the pinched line. So, what was wrong here? The line he removed was a damn coolant line for the EGR spacer. It had NOTHING to do with fuel delivery. To this day, I am puzzled as to how he didn't get sprayed with, smell, or see any evidence of coolant there. I remember that like it was yesterday, and have always used that as a reminder as to why I do things myself. EDIT: Wow... that was TWENTY FIVE years ago, and I still use it as a reminder.

I hear you. It's a lot easier to say "25 years," than it is to come to terms with where the 25 years went. There's also a lot of things done by shops that is unexplainable. A couple of times over the years I've pushed for an explanation to the point that the shop eventually admitted they can't explain why they did what they did. I remember when laws changed here and shops were required to return any parts that were changed if requested. It's always fun when the returned parts had nothing to do with the quoted job while the parts obviously came off the vehicle. Here in Michigan mechanics and shops are required to have a license (shops) and the displayed certifications required for the work they do.
Whitey when you do your pitman arm the grinder and chisel method work... you just gotta cut pretty deep. Took me longer than it probably should have but i was nervous of cutting too deep so i took it very slow lol. Anyway can confirm it works and it falls right off.
