Luckily my Wife cuts my hair... about every 3 or 4 weeks.
Today I went to the yard and started measuring fans. We literally have none of the usual suspects in the yards anymore.... all of the correct Taurus's, Cougars, T-Birds, Contours, and even Dodge Intrepids are all MIA in the yards here. So, I did what any other idiot would do, and got a fan from a 2012 Fusion. It was the closest I could find in size. But it has the control module on it. And I'll be damned if I can't find a stupid pinout/wiring diagram for the module. I know power and ground, but there's a third, smaller wire that I don't know the purpose of. Any of you happen to know?
Speedometer fan shut off wire?
I like that small container attached to the fan white. What do you plan to do with that? Could be many many useful things. Like coolant reservoir, power steering reservoir, windshield washer fluid reservoir. May help to clean up the engine bay a bit too.

It should be a PWM fan control wire to the ECU. ECU uses pulse width to ground signals to control speed of fan.

With all the different reasons given so far and the one I'm going to add, I wonder if it's all redundant? Different reasons as needed but all working the same way? For me it's about using the FFRP PCM when using an electric fan and pump to keep the fan and pump running until a pre-set coolant temperature is reached after the engine is turned off. The PCM wiring information doesn't say anything about how it works though. For using this option there's just a picture showing what they call a "lug" in the FRPDB that the wire goes to along with information about setting the "hot at all time" and "KAM" requirements.
I wouldn't have added this except you are getting a lot of answers to what the wire is for.
EDIT: BTW, I'll shoot your wife a couple of extra bucks for gas if she could stop by tomorrow for a cut?????
Thanks Noobie... I had wondered if it was a pulse with "speed", or something. I'm probably just going to run it full speed when the t-stat hits 180 and call it good.
Got the cam in, timing set on, chain cover on, water pump on, and the oil pan on. I also got my air hose inside of the water passages.... and holy crap! There was a lot of stuff in there that my vacuum didn't get out. I am so glad that I did that! My backup shim kit came today too.... but tomorrow we are going to do a day trip down south. Not too sure if I will get anything done late tomorrow. I was really hoping to have this thing up and running by Saturday, but it's not looking too promising. Way too much waiting on parts!!
I really like the all in one format of that cooling system.
Has the radiator, fan, reservoir, and controller on on one unit.
Makes it easy to use for retrofits. Keep that in the back of my mid for future use.
Damn, what a week. My damn knee took to hurting again. I should of never stepped into that hole. OUCH. I've been limping a lot since then. lol
Hope all is well with everyone. So far so good. 3 other family members, extended family, who caught the virus, are all doing fairly well now. One is having breathing problems but hopefully he fully recovers. The 2 girls are doing fine.
This week, I'm going to finally pull out my motorhome. She's been in storage for 4 straight years. I bought it in 2010, and have only put 400 miles on it. Time to use it this year, Maybe. lol
Been doing projects around the place. Made a couple of 8ft storage units Resoded part of my grass and now am in the process of doing a new front door. I'm getting there. Slowly as hell if you ask me. I'm good for so much before the pain in the knees makes me have to stop or at least slowdown. Walking wounded, lol.
