Ethernet is using CAT5/5E/6 to connect to your LAN. Still my preferred method of connecting stationary machines.

Are you using a static IP or DHCP to connect to the router? Just wondering where you are seeing hsd1.mi.comcast.net?

It comes up under network connection details. Right click wi-fi under network connections. Select status. Select details. It's coming up under "connection specific DNS suffix" as its value. But that's now since the IPv6 has been disabled. Before where in your "ethernet 3 properties" graphic it was in the "connect using" box. Where you have "Surface Ethernet Adaptor." What I now have in that box for wi-fi is "Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC-7265," instead of the hsd1.mi.comcast.net. I can only tell you I have no idea what any of this means. Are the Russians coming? The only thing I've messed with is manually connecting because of how often updates and other nonsense was going on when I believed my computer was off.

Interesting. That is blank on mine. You must be using a router you're renting from Comcast? My parents have a Comcast router... what a POS.

AK is keeping an eye on the Russians for us. When he says "duck", you better listen!

Sorry, we said no politics. My bad. I couldn't help myself.

Damn I must be feeling better.

Maybe Sarah can look from her house on the lake. Probably not

Yes, Everything with the internet is what Comcast left here. I'm not sure we can do anything about it because the box somehow effects the cable TV and land line telephone. I'm not sure how because the cable can go out and the internet work or the internet can go out and the cable can be working but when a reset is required, hitting the reset button shuts everything down while everything starts back up. Can the router be replaced without effecting anything else? BTW, thanks for the help.

From what I saw on TV last night AK should be watching out for UFO's. Can only hope he has the time for multitasking!

Her dad was one of my teachers in school, and knowing this family, I still can't figure out what John McCain was thinking drawing upon her. She was and is rated right down there with Miller as Governor. A total waste. She did do one thing for everyone though. She allotted 1200 of the PFD for fuel and heating in 07 or so. Other than that, it was a total farce. Hell, she got so high one night (at a friends I have contact with still) that she sent away the Trooper's assigned to her. It was a joke, and she still is.

Every year at Thanksgiving, her pardon shows up. She was pardoning a turkey, only to be shown others being beheaded in the background. She'll forever be remembered for that.

UFO's? WTH?

Well... Comcast is a PITA to deal with here in UT. They don't like you buying your own equipment and returning theirs.... but if you buy your own, it's much better. I have an Arris Surfboard with DOCSIS 3.1 because it is quick enough to do fiber. I have fiber available, and planned on getting it until they told me the price was 179 dollars a month. No thanks!

What you've got is probably OK for what you're doing. I've got so much stuff tied into mine.... kinda need my own deal.

The thing I don't like about Comcast's modems is they become hotspots for other Comcast subscribers. I can sign into either one of my neighbors routers with my account.

That's really interesting about the "hotspots." When I connect to the network after turning it on I have anywhere between 30 and 40 connections show up. Only two of them are ours annotated as 2.4 and 5.0. I never realized my connection was being made available to others. Fortunately, I think I have disabled hotspot because of a bad experience I had probably 7 or 8 years ago at a campground. I really don't know if disabled hotspot means I can't use it or if someone else can't use my internet? Also at least 25% of the connections that show up are used by home security systems tied to comcast. JMO but comcast sucks. They are cutting in to tv daily, sometimes multiple times with the "this is a test of the required weekly or monthly civil warning . . . " At one time it was happening so often that the agencies involved came out and said what was going on wasn't because of anything they were requiring. They also said that comcast was suppose to have a backup system per their licensing agreement and that they didn't years after it was suppose to be in. When they do maintenance or whatever, their systems can be down for hours and more.

Yea, UFO's. Apparently Alaska gets their fair share of activity according to the program. A lot was said to be tied to the Bering Sea and that big ELF site up there. Hey, I was just watching. Their words not mine.
