Buck, it has actually been a very interesting day. Woke up to high winds and rain at about 4 am and it steadily got worse until 630 PM or so. About 10" of rain later and the river is up 5 ft.

This was my front yard right before dark.

Some dummy must have removed the logos. The "GT Premium" came with these under the 5.0's. These are repro's of course, since NOS OEM ones fetch about $650 each, and that's IF you can find them.

LMAO... that's funny. "Autozone Bling"

Well damn it... we got us a little thunder and lightning storm and it just started another damn fire on the next mountain west of the other fire. Rain is just starting, so hopefully it puts both fires out.

I think we are out of the woods now. It has been a roller coaster of a day. My wife is working night shift at the hospital so I'm getting some dinner together and my chainsaw to take a little ride to town. Looks like nowhere up there has had any power since before midday.

Looks like I will be playing a little iron maiden on my ride White. Hahahaha

Sometime between the first of the year and the spring I'd been planning on selling the house and travelling. In the 80's when I did this, private vehicle US plates were available through the DC DMV but no more. Depending on the type of registration the service was ended sometime between 95 and 2010. All that's available now is short term commercial plates. The reason seems to be mostly because of the growth in permanent RV'ers. Plating is all done through the states only and there are only a few states that don't require proof of permanent residence. The best choices seem to be S. Dakota, Florida and Texas. Anyone have any advice about this?

I wonder how those that are homeless through no fault of their own deal with this?

My boss who moved to Tucson and lives in an RV uses a mail system that qualifies it as a permanent address, he can pick his city and state for the mail to be mailed to. So IF he wanted to his permanent address could be listed as Miami FL or Tucson AZ. If you're interested I can ask the name of the company and send it to you to check out.
He's been Using it for about 1.5yrs now

That's what I was hoping but unfortunately that's not the way it is anymore. Check this out:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_ID_Act

There are like 6 states that make it possible to do what you suggest. They all have drawbacks though. Texas for example requires yearly emission checks for plates. S. Dakota is about the best in that you only have to return once every 5 years for drivers license renewal and only requires a one night stay at a campground to establish residency. Alaska's good but it's so darn far away. Florida has a number of hoops to jump through but can be managed. The worst is if you have a lien on a vehicle the institution has to be operating in Florida or you have to get the lien released or refinance in FL. There are some proof of residency requirements too.

I live in Michigan and a mail forwarding service doesn't qualify as a residence. You need utility bills and other like proofs.

This whole thing sucks.
