It does look to be an inch or so too long. Was there a different axle that could have had larger brakes? Maybe it's the wrong cable.
Looks like it'll run the drum to me.....
Cables for my truck are non existent so I had to try cables from a 76... they were the closest in length. I was thinking I could maybe trim the spring down, just wasn't sure if they should fit "snug" or what. Overall length is still tbd but the shop said I could get new ones made with a shorter length for $25. If I need to do that I'll probably have the spring shortened too. I sent them an email inquiring but haven't heard back yet.
2100......BC98769 left and BC98770 right (Wagner) 1973-75 F250 w 21/8 and 2.5 rear shoes. Rock Auto has them under those numbers, but Amazon will convert it to Dorman #s. What you have is not right

Yeah I have the heavy duty brakes. 12 x 2.5" brakes not the 12 1/8 x 2.5 light duty brakes
Also my cables must enter at a 45 degree angle into the backing plate. Trust me I've beaten this dead horse lol. There is 1 cable for sale NOS (original part # not the updated part #) on eBay for $120... I'd still be 1 cable short and $120 poorer.

2100.....can you take a picture up close of the back. A 45º angle is how most Ford cable go in with drums, into the mount boss. I had those numbers set aside because of my buddy's 2 highboys, with 2.5 rear (316 shoes). .He replaced the right rear on his green one'

What years are his Highboy's? It's the 73-75 heavy duty brake Highboy's that are obsolete.
I circled the part in question on rockauto pics. Every supplier says they go straight in, NAPA pulled the cable and it was straight, there's 7 threads on FTE talking about the lack of cables and how the straight cables bind up and you need the 45 degree angle. If you find some miracle cable I'll be happy but I don't wanna get my hopes up lol
Yeah, I bought them from brake Bruin who make their own but yeah that's the rock auto number that got me on this trail. Overall it's roughly 3/4" longer than the obsolete cable. Was hoping I could overcome that difference where the two rears meet the front cable. That's my trial. And so far I'm hung up on the spring length inside the drum... I'll be testing the overall length once the axle is installed. Sadly I think they will be too long as the front cable I just bought (OEM part) but actually measure longer than it should.
Here's a pic from one of the users who tried the light duty brake cables I believe oh and most people have a problem of the spring being too short lol as picture too
I figured out what you meant when I went into my notes I kept for my buddy who has all the 67-79's. I have a note on backing plates but the link is dead. Figures

Yep I was extra mad when one of the FTE threads I was reading ended abruptly with the guy finding both cables for $25 on eBay my next dentside will for sure be a 76 or newer LOL
Any thoughts on the springs and if I should cut them down?
Of course I won't do this until I verify the overall length fits .
I'd wait and set the rear and run the cables before cutting the springs. With the 76 cables, you'll need to take up about 3/4 in of length my notes show. That might be off some, depending on everything. Old notes, older guy trying to decipher those notes. Lots of grease spots.
