I am in the middle of downloading Ubuntu. My 3TB Western Digital MyCloud drive ate it. It has bad sectors on the disc. I am hoping I can repair it with Ubuntu, because the file system WD uses is Linux based, so I can't fix it with Windows. I ordered an 8TB Raid-1 Setup, but it won't be here for another 2 weeks. My kids are going nuts not being able to watch the movies I have on it, lol. Yeah.... my kids, that's who I'll blame it on.

If it's a mechanical disk with bad sectors, yes those are simple. SSD, haha good luck lol.

Well, it is mechanical with a Linux OS. Ubuntu won't initiate the fsck on the drive. I am not very proficient in Linux. I can fix DOS/NTFS/FAT**/Windows stuff all day.
Kind of getting frustrated here... hahaha.

Looks like the drive isn't partitioned to accept Ubuntu. Have you tried to load a CD with Ubuntu and load from the CD. It should set up to the file correctly, I believe. I only play with this on the Raspi's, so I'm not that up on it, but I think that is the problem.

I think Western Digital has this set up so nobody will eff with it. I can see and recover files using EaseUS under Windows.
I tried every scenario under Ubuntu. Drive was indeed mounted. I was using a bootable CD for it. I think I am going to wait and recover the data that I can before I try and mess with the OS. I have the proper files to do a clean sweep and install, but I can't get anything to just try and repair the bad sectors. I don't think the disk is physically damaged.
I am trying WD's Lifeguard program one more time, then I am going to wait until I have the new 8TB setup to recover my data.
Looks like it's snowing again. Expy and Yota were clean a bit ago.....

That's what I have to do, it is the last resort. Iduno, guess it's worth it..core 2 duo 3.0. Dragging my feet on it tho lol. I have to make a drivers CD then fresh copy. I can get pics and docs, not sure if I can save some of the pricey programs. It's been sitting here for a couple weeks now lol.
Over the years I've never failed with mechanical drives using the finger tap method, my original method I believe. It reawakens the bad sectors just long enough to image or clone. Doesn't work on ssd's.
All the snow is melting here and there's a lot of it, flood warnings are up. Man I sure hope this is the end of the cold cold. What a season to test a travel trailer in cold weather. It kept me busy lol

Reading the flow of this, it will drop down across BC and go across and come in around Minnesota or Upper Michigan and then do the swoop down south again, according to the weather forecasters. Sorry, but snow is running out in front of it.

I read it wrong. It's only -16 in North Pole right now. It will be -30 tonight and then for the next 4 days
