Wow that would be a great turn key deal.

Do you know off the top of your head what compression would be on an npi 5.4 vs a pi swapped 5.4? I am still wanting to try and run 91 octane and if I got flat tops on a pi motor it looks like compression would be past 11.
Stock npi pistons are junk. I've blistered a set early into my PI swap. Just get better pistons for higher compression. If I changed my cams I could get more Upton but I'd use my truck as a truck and refuse to sacrifice the low end. But at this point I think I'm done with gas engines. Diesels are where the power and economy come from.

Npi 5.4 is 9.6:1. If I recall PI 5.4 is also 9.6:1. PI swapped 5.4 can range from 10.5-10.8:1. Most of the difference being in the brand of head gasket. I'm using a Felpro and its close to 11:1. My head were also decked .010"

Thank you very much. I was going back and forth between a flat top and a 3cc dish. Do you think I would need forged pistons or would the stock composition work? I'm not looking but for maybe 300 at the crank on 91 octane if possible. If you are using felpro then I have no reason to do other wise.

I like diesel trucks but I couldn't possibly take one in the narrow trails I have to go down for work.

If you are planning on getting new ones I would go forged just for the durability and so if you ever end up boosting it you don't have to worry about them. I would do the diesel route to, they are just so expensive. And they are to dam heavy, where I hunt and ride everyone uses old Toyotas for there off road rigs and daily driving. Red clay sucks, I wouldn't want to be in anything heavier than my truck

This truck will never see boost. Too many more things to go wrong with what I have to put it through.

Just out of curiosity, what would a factory 5.4 lightning swapped truck be making for power? With bolt ons maybe 400 at the crank? My goal is 400-450ish but I'm not sure if the internals will be able to hold up to the boost. Also, I love torque. I'd rather the truck have big grunt on the bottom end than be fast on the top end only

Flat tops will be fine on 91. I blistered them on 87 and poor tuning. As long as the tune is safe it will be fine. I have coated Mahle hyperutectics now and they are fine. They have been going for around 140k. Being I tune I know how far I can push timing. If I was gonna do it all over again I would have gotten a more aggressive cam profile and used Motorcraft headgaskets. The Motorcraft
Are .008" thicker when compressed.
