I thought the only 5.4s with forged internals were the lightings? If mine is forged then I keep it, ill definitely be getting forged rods tho. Cause I now I will eventually want to add a blower

Lol... The only difference in an 03 lightning and my 03 is the pistons. 18cc vs our 11cc N/A pistons (I believe). Both have the same junk rods, forged cranks, updated 8 thread PI heads

I still see conflicting reports on whether the stock trucks (lightning)had forged pistons or hypernetic

No Lightnings had forged rods. They did have forged cranks but had the same powdered rods and the N/A and L had the same pistons just a lower compression on the L. Some early model F-150s have been found to have forged cranks but not a lot.

The heads and cams were 100% the same. Also not all 03 N/A or L had 8thread heads. It was the later 03s that started showing up with 8 thread heads and most 04s.

Just a FYI Sal@PSP made over 800rwhp on a N/A none forged crank. Only to have it break after adding a 200(IIRC) shot.

$ depends on if you go to pick part that is close to me I can get motor $400 no matter wat one in yard with ward but that's a lot of labor just to find cracked head I was going to do the navi swap but I went out and looked how hard it would be to use chain hoist on a frame to remove I found mine pi 5.4 from guy that builds our trucks for living he prefers 4.6 I even got him to swap out the composite intake for the all aluminum one and it cost me $250 and dropped off out front I'm trying to get it on stand today .also if you know you don't need it asap most junk yards are open year round and are 50% off on holiday that's wat got me on navi kick I was alone but 00 navi 4v complete with harnesses $200 but I wasn't ready to spend 12 hours there lol

I was looking at doing a oil catch can for pcv does someone make a oil fill tube that's tapped or made to trap excess or could just go down oil fill tube so no worrying about can being full I see Shelby has screw on cap but looks to be pain to undue lines to add oil any thoughts I must have see one surely I'm not going to run with out one there's at least 1/4 quart in all intake track side of motor

Vince @ L&S sells one but after dealing with him personally(local to me) and also worked on vehicles he built I wouldn't ever support him ever again.

It also put the collected oil back into the oil which normally I would say is great but after reading the huge thread about the UPR and RX catch can and seeing what's being caught i would never want to put the oil/fuel/water back into my engine.

I'd suggest a remote mounted UPR catch can!
