Finally completed Gotts mod today on my '07 3V 5.4L. It was really cheap, easy, and there seems to be a nice improvement in throttle response.

I used 3" sewer line instead of PVC, because the pipe wall is thinner. I didn't have to do any sanding or filing, and the pipe fits perfectly snug in fender hole.

Before (stock)

Remove stock snorkel (I just pried it off with a flat head screwdriver)

Use 4" to 3" connector for coupling of the existing intake housing and the new Gotts intake pipe

Cut about 16 inch length of 3" Sewer line to replace stock snorkel. I cut it long enough to fit far enough in to be firm, but short enough as to not cover the small holes in the bottom of the intake housing. You can see that the pipe wall is a lot thinner than standard PVC.

Painted sewer line and inserted into fender well. Little effort to slide in,yet snug enough to stay with no sanding or filing

Reconnect assembly to new intake pipe at the coupler and done. Completed Gotts Intake mod. (Don't forget to disconnect the negative battery cable for at least 10 minutes to reset ECM)

And for a special bonus, I replaced my air filter with a new Amsoil to maximize performance increase from my new mod.

Question -- the whole idea of a gotts mod is widening the most narrow point in the air intake, right? But it seems like the size of the space where the air intake goes into the throttle body and past the butterfly valve is the limiting factor, unless you literally open the throttle all the way. Just thinking out loud, does this mean gotts mod wouldn't increase performance in normal driving, where the throttle is only partway open? I don't remember off the top of my head the relative sizes of the tb and the stock air intake, I should check this weekend.

Default Gotts mod + muffler removal

Fellas,
I knocked mine out the other night and it didn't take much time at all. I did tweek the pipe going into the fender and put a bit of a scoop on it. All I used was a piece of 3" pvc pipe, one hose clamp and some high temp flat black paint bbq paint I found in the garage. Total cost was $12.

I did use a band saw and remove the mufflers and then sanded down the ridges. I found some caps in the parts room that fit the holes and 2 stage epoxied them in.

I havent noticed crap, looks cool and in theory it should work well. There is no additional noise from the intake but not that I would really hear it over the stainless MagnaFlow 3" exhaust.

and just in case somebody need to know what parts, besides the 3" pvc tube in home depot for a 5.4L V8 2004-2008:
So if I get that rubber reducer that will slip right in the hole and clamp to my air box on my 02 4.6? No need for the pipe right?

The sewer pipe with the 4" to 3" looks easy enough!! Will these be the only things I need to do the mod to a 2004 XLT new body style?

Gonna do the mod this weekend, but wondering if I have to cut out the silencer for it to work right. I have a 04 5.4L and was only planning to do the intake mod. Not really sure I want to be cutting stuff out..... what do you guys think?
