you can remove those baffles and you will be left with a few holes (3). then you can cover the holes with plugs of that size available in lowes. you will have to glue them with silicone or epoxy.

not my picture:

2" test/knock out cap, a 1.5" test/knock out cap & a 1" plug

i dont see how this could suck any less water than the original way. in both ways, its not sealed. an even if you seal it, in the bottom of the intake are several holes (maybe intended to allow the water to flow back out of the intake). also, there is holes in the side panel where the intake connects, so, in both cases, if you get water that high, you could get water in the intake....

now... you can always relocate the intake to inside the truck...

just kidding!

I did this to my intake last week and covered the holes with some gorilla tape. I'll try and get pics tomorrow.

I used a band saw. Took 5 minutes to trim the baffles off, just make sure you don't trim the mounting tab in the back. I then covered the holes with Gorilla tape and wrapped it with electrical tape. I'm planning on fiberglassing or bondoing it all smooth eventually.
