Sync update - cannot find installation files
Well, I tried it again this AM on my 2010 F150 with basic Sync:
- Did a fresh download
- Got a "Installation file not found" on 1st attempt
- Edited the "autoinstall" file to remove all but one of the [Windows Mobile for Automotive 5.8] lines. Left everything below that line intact. Not sure if this step is actually needed.
- Edited the "install" file. Original had pointers to xxxx-AF and xxxx-HA cabinet files in the SyncMyRide folder. The xxxx-AF file is there but I had no xxxx-HA file. I did have an xxxx-HC file so I changed the 2 references (Item2 and Open2) from HA to HC. Sorta educated guess since one of my earlier downloads from 2 months ago referenced the HC file but the update failed then with "insufficient memory or compatibility" type of error.
- Took the USB to truck and navigated to "install application" and ta-da! Took about 10 minutes but the upgrade did occur. I now see a different software version listed.
Your mileage may vary but that's what worked for me...

I was able to follow Bovin's post and successfully install the update on my 2010 Ford F-150 (after many, many, many previous failed attempts).
A couple of notes:
- The file date of my download was April 16, not the later April 30 that some users have seen.
- I used Internet Explorer on Windows to download and unzip the files. Using Chrome or Safari on the Mac does not seem to create the right folder structure.
- After the initial euphoria of "Installation Complete" and "Rebooting" there was a slight panic attack after the system came back on line unresponsive. No radio, no phone, nothing. I sat there with the engine running for about 10 minutes without anything changing and cursed myself for having bricked my system. However, after turning the truck off and removing the key, saying a prayer, and restarting, everything came back online. I had to re-pair my phone, but once done, I had the new software working well.
Crazy that we have to resort to coding, but at least it's a simple edit and gets the job done.
Good luck!

Ed, what item number was the reference to the HA file? In my install file, I don't have any reference to the HA or HC file but it is in the SyncMyRide folder. Strange it would be in the folder but not referenced in the install file - which might explain a failure to install.

dwcpsc, I also have many files in the SyncMyRide folder and would expect files to differ between model numbers/types/years.
This is the "modified" install file I used for a 2010 F150 with basic Sync:
[Windows Mobile for Automotive 5.8]
Item1 = 8L2T-14D546-AF
Open1 = 8L2T-14D546-AF.CAB
Item2 = E1BT-14D546-HC
Open2 = E1BT-14D546-HC.cab

Here's what I did in detail for anyone still having trouble. My truck is a 2010 with basic sync.
The current download for me is DE8T-14D544-AC.zip, my files were still dated 4/16/2016. This is what it looked like when I downloaded:
Here is what the two install files looked like.
install.lst on the left, autoinstall.lst on the right
I removed the extra lines in install.lst to simplify it to this:
I changed the reference in autoinstall.lst to the -HA file to -HC, since -HA does not exist in the SyncMyRide folder.
I copied the edited files and the SyncMyRide folder to the root of my FAT32 formatted flash drive and started the update in the truck. I did a master reset before just in case.
I got the initial "Installation Complete" message, then waited for about 10 minutes. It changed through a few screens over this time. At the end it gave me a message that the install failed but after checking the version, the update succeeded! I did another master reset, again just in case, then re-paired my phone.
I am now getting artist and song info on Bluetooth audio and it shows the new version in the system info.
Thanks again boivin!
I bet I am not the only one that thinks that Ford should be able to figure this one out before all our F150's turn into piles of rust.....When your customers can do it.......
Guess Ford thinks that trucks costing upwards of $45k aren't supposed to have sound systems that actually work as described.....Still unacceptable, and still embarrassing....

So I'm a patient woman, and thought I would check again if I had updated files to download. This evening, Sync My Ride now says I have downloaded an update and will not let me re-download! Buggars! So I said to blazes with it and followed nickl89's awesome step-by-step instructions and BINGO! Worked like a charm.
Would anyone happen to have a clean copy of the download for the 2012 F-150 that they would be willing to share? It would need to be the files before they got transferred to the USB drive and installed. I can no longer access the download from the update site - it thinks I have already done so and had a successful install - which, I could only wish.
Well I finally got the update to install. I think Ford red this post and edited the files. Because they were already in for format outlined above. This time I plugged it in, had to dig through some menu's to get it to install but it finally went. Had some sync issues with my Samsung S6, but seems to be working alright today. Still says "blututh Audio" though.
