Sync update - cannot find installation files
Shaay,
I swung by a dealership today and called another. The first dealership said emphatically, it's the antenna. The second said they would need to check the high speed and low speed can busses, the APIM module and several other things. I don't know a ton about this vehicle, but I do know from other types of can bus that an "unhappy can bus" will likely have intermittent and widespread errors, however this is the only issue I see. So I think I can rule out both the engine management bus and the interior or user features bus at least with some degree of certainty. The APIM module includes the steering wheel audio controls I believe, and is also usually a can bus, and since that and all of the other audio functions are working, I think I can rule that out with some degree of certainty.
You said the GPS module. Is that a separate module which is part of the ivi system? Or are you referring to the antenna?
The dealership I visited wanted $400-something to replace the antenna, or 4 hours of labor, which is ludacris. I say that having spent the past hour not only dropping the headliner to check the GPS antenna connection there, but also the connection under the passenger side dash, and inspecting the wire for abrasion and kinks all the way to the base of the center console where it appears to split into two separate cables; presumably one for GPS, and one for the satellite radio. I did not fully disassemble the dash to trace the wire all the way to the myFord Touch, but after reassembling everything, I checked the Sirius radio, (no subscription but it at least has a preview station, which was working), I think I can rule out the antenna. All of which took under 1 hour for someone familiar with cars but completely new to Fords or this vehicle in particular, so I'm not sure where the dealership is getting 4 hours...
All of that said, I saw a TSB somewhere indicating a calibration may be necessary, but I do not know if that would resolve my issue either. One of the steps for the TSB and some of the forums indicated disconnecting the negative battery terminal for at least 1 minute may help, however it did not for me. The only thing it did was wipe my clock data which appears to be set only by the GPS so I have no clock now.
If there is a separate GPS module, where is it located, and is there any way I can test it or does that require proprietary hardware and software?
Of all of the information I can gather, it does not seem that my issues is related to any of the issues I have seen posted in forums thus far, and with barely 45k miles on the clock, it seems like very low mileage for something like this to occur. Has this been an issue for others and I am simply not finding the right forum threads or is this a solitary problem? Any additional input would be greatly appreciated.

I see on several forums instructions for other vehicles on accessing the diagnostics menu where there is an option to show the number of connected satellites. They all reference systems with left/right/up/down hard buttons in the center console which the F150 does not have. I have tried pressing and holding the eject button and then pressing and holding several other buttons with the hope that the same functionality existed using a different button. Can you provide instruction on accessing this menu for my vehicle (2011 F150 with the 8" touchscreen nav)
Shaay, any idea on the status of 4.4? Many others on this forum have been able to update using files with an April 30 date stamp, however, my files in Syncmyride still have an April 16 date stamp and will not work. i do a lot of commuting in my truck for business and would really love to get the text function working.

Someone should reach out to you by email when the issue is resolved on your account. I'll check the case to see if there are any updates. I'll respond in our PM.

For me, the issue was Ford's installation instructions, NOT the files. Once I figured that out, all was well. I have a basic Sync with MyFord system.
Use the buttons to navigate to "System Settings" > "Advanced" > "Install Application"

So frustrated with this update process. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I have a 2012 Ford F150 and it seems like the Sync system worked best when I first purchased the truck. Anyway, i've been looking forward to this update with hopes it would fix some of the glitchy behavior of the system.
I've downloaded the zip file. Unzipped it and copied the contents to my USB drive (I've tried two). The unzipped file does not yield a file or two and a folder it just unzips to a list of 11 files. I've tried to install with the full list of files with no success and also with the "SyncMyRidexxx" files in their own SyncMyRide folder which I created with no success.
Each time the system tells me the installation files were not found. I tried installing after a master reset with no luck.
So not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm getting tired of wasting my time on this. If anyone has any suggestions on what else I can try or what I am doing wrong, please let me know.
Thanks.

It's not you, it's Ford. Don't waste another moment on it. This community has seen some of our most technology-savvy members take deep dives into the problem, and in my opinion all we've learned that we're not going to be able to hack our way to success.
I reported my results and installation log to the IVT team via PM, and received a reply which didn't acknowledge my expenditure of time and effort, and promised only to add the notes to my case file. Not sure what I expected, but a "hey, man, nice shot" would've gone a long way.

Uggh, got it to work. Just for kicks I abandoned my MAC and went over to my Windows PC and downloaded and unzipped the file. When I did this things looked different. Two files and a SyncMyRide folder, so things definitely looked better. I went out to the truck, put in the drive and selected "Install Applications" and it installed fine.
Not sure if anything will change but at least the install seemed to go well.
