The Ultimate MPG thread.
I still agree. If you want to get technical, bsfc is at its lowest at zero manifold pressure, as long as Power Enrichment doesn't kick in. Ideally, you would accelerate at a rate that is heaviest throttle you can while the ECM is still commanding 14.5/1 a/f. Or, more importantly, accelerate at a rate that allows the most coasting, which will vary based on traffic and stops.

New to forum so please forgive me if question has been asked.
Are the mileage quotes computer readouts or true calculated. I have NEVER seen a trip computer readout in any vehicle that was accurate.
My 2009 Screw reads 2 or 3 MPG above calculated. How do others compare?
I know a lot people who have never checked their TRUE mileage.

I have a new 2013 SCREW XLT 5.0L with about 3K miles on it and I've just taken a trip from North Carolina to Colorado. I've found the trip computer to be fairly accurate, calculating MPG's about 2-3 tenths below actual.
For the trip I drove whatever the posted speed limit was, anywhere between 65 and 75. For the 1600 mile journey, my trip computer recorded an average MPG of 20.9. So I'm very pleased with the fuel economy of the F150, especially because my previous vehicle was a 4.0L Tacoma and this F150 has better fuel economy of about 1 MPG than it.

I have a 2012 F-150, Super Crew with the V8 (got a great deal so no EcoBoost for me). I just finished a trip from N.E. Ohio to Springfield, MO to pick up a boat which had a dry weight of roughly 2,300 lbs. I drove the recommended speed limits the entire way there (varied from 55 to 70 & some 45 mph in construction zones). On the way down it was mostly day time so traffic was a little more congested. I averaged 17mpg on the way there which was much better than the 13.6mpg I get consistently around town so I was pretty happy with that. Now, on the way back with the boat in tow, I averaged 10.5mpg again driving the recommended speed limits. I give all of this information because since the truck was obviously working harder to tow the boat (the RPM's were always around 300-500 higher to maintain the same speeds and over 1k more on hill climbs at times), I actually found that if I didn't try to manually control the speed of the truck by staying in a lower RPM range and just let the cruise do the work, my mpg kept creeping up slowly over time(I started with 9.5mpg). I just wish there was a way to average 20-21 around town like some other 1/2 ton pick ups on the road. But even at that, I'm not trading my Ford in on a Dodge or Chevy. That would just be crazy.
