E85 isn't always 85% corn. It must be above 51% to qualify as E85. The max is 83% corn juice added to the fuel because the denatured ethanol used already has 2% gas in it.
If its cheaper/mile, it is only by virtue of the cost being spread around to other people (taxpayers who dont use it), thereby lowering your price.

ok so here's my latest tank. In & around town, avoiding traffic, timing lights (where I could), keeping the RPM under 1500 90% of the time & running on 87 octane - 10% ethanol at 3500 feet altitude. Empty truck.
804.5 km : 104.3 liters = 12.97 L/100 km (18.3 mpg - CITY !!-hand calculated). Not too bad when it should be 16-17 mpg in the city - so that puts me about 10% OVER EPA !
**note my trucks '12.9 L/100 km' is accurate to my hand calculated off the pump - so for the past 4 tanks, the truck computer has been near dead on with hand calculation.

These 2 pics are from a couple of tanks of fuel back. My latest tank was 20.7 mpg and 11.6 l/100Km. my trip consisted of 2 straight 235mile/380 km runs plus the running around in between those runs. when on the highway I kept my cruise pegged at 70mph/115km/h. I ended up getting over 1100kms for the tank and used 33 gal/ 126 L. My truck is a 2012 FX4 SCREW with 3.73 gears.
You ecoboost guys have the power and the small displacement, lucky suckers! But us 3.7 fans can do OK too...I'm just over 20mpg lifetime and snagged a 500 mile tank for 26 gallons too. Most of my techniques have been covered in the previous 24 pages
but keeping rpm's low, avoiding excess speed, getting into 6th as much as possible, and avoiding the brakes are what I strive for. I've got a topper and I think that cut my mileage just a bit. Great thread!

Just finished moving my daughter from Madison Wisconsin to Ann Arbor Michigan. Drove from Kansas to Madison empty, and loaded a u-haul and headed for Ann Arbor. Average mileage for entire trip was 17.89 mpg. I tried to keep the rpm's at 2,000 or below. This resulted in me running around 70 to 72 mph empty and 55 to 63 mph with the trailer. My highest mileage was 21.708 and the lowest was 12.63(driving around Ann Arbor).
Fairly pleased for a 2009 straight cab long bed 4x4 with 3:55 gears and 5.4 6spd. tranny.

Here's my mileage reports.
Last tank: Hand calculated to 17.2mpg, lots of city
Tank before that: Hand calculated to 17.9MPG mostly highway
Current tank: 18.2MPG, About 75% highway with some consistent city driving done in one day.
Here's a glimpse at my numbers when I was about 80% done my round trip to Lethbridge, AB (while my truck rolled over 55555.55km!
) The tank was still slightly under half when I got home. This picture was taken about 20km from home.

Very happy with the numbers considering my 34" 10 ply Toyo tires and level, as well as making plenty of heavy throttle passes on two lane highways.
